GUYANA: Police ranks’ firefighting training helps contain blaze at CID headquarters

The fire, which is still being investigated, occurred just after 10:00hrs at the Narcotics Branch building located in the northwestern side of the CID compound.

GUYANA: Cash grant for hinterland communities; free fertiliser for farmers; home-ownership assistance

President Irfaan Ali on Monday May 16, 2022 announced that there would be a special one-off cash grant of G$25,000 to households in riverain and hinterland communities as well as the purchase of GY$1 billion in fertiliser for free distribution to farmers.

The cost of the one-off cash-grant would amount GY$800 million because they have been “particularly affected by the cost of living,” he said.    Continue reading

UKRAINE: Ukrainian troops evacuate from Mariupol; ceding control to Russia

The evacuation likely marked the end of the longest and bloodiest battle of the Ukraine war and a significant defeat for Ukraine. Mariupol is now in ruins after a Russian siege that Ukraine says killed tens of thousands of people in the city.
