The Windrush Foundation invites all members of the Guyana SPEAKS network to a Tribute event for Dr J. S. Risien Russell, Sunday, 20 March 2022 at 2pm at 44 Wimpole Street, London, W1G 8SA.
.
Dr. Russell, of Guyanese heritage and Leonora born, was Britain’s first neurologist of mixed ethnic heritage. He was professor of medical jurisprudence and subsequently professor of medicine at University College London, serving as president of the neurology section of the Royal Society of Medicine after 1907. For more information, please see the attachment. Dignitaries including the Deputy Mayor of Westminster and English Heritage officials have been invited to the event. Rod and I hope you will join us there.

Russian advances have ground to a halt in many areas, with Ukrainian forces holding out in several cities and also launching effective counterattacks.
Here are the latest developments on day 24 of the invasion:

- Fighting taking place on streets in the centre of Mariupol
- Russian forces agree to allow residents to evacuate several cities in the east
- Ukrainian forces holding on to Kharkiv and repel an advance to the south of the city

EUROPE: China’s President Xi tells US President Biden that the Ukraine war should end
Joe Biden meets virtually with Xi Jinping from the Roosevelt Room of the White House in Washington.
March 18, 2022- WASHINGTON/BEIJING, (Reuters) – Chinese President Xi Jinping told U.S. President Joe Biden in a video call today that the war in Ukraine must end as soon as possible and called on NATO nations to hold a dialogue with Moscow, but did not assign blame to Russia for the invasion.
In the call, which lasted nearly two hours, Biden was expected to tell the Chinese leader that Beijing would pay a steep price if it directly supports Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a warning at a time of deepening acrimony between the world’s two largest economies. Continue reading →
