The aftermath of the fire at the GPHC echocardiograph (ECG) room

According to the Guyana Fire Service, ranks responded to a report of a fire at the hospital sometime around 05:24hrs on New Year’s Day by deploying water tenders from the Central, Campbellville and Albertown Fire Stations.

The fire service stated that the fire occurred in the echocardiograph (ECG) room of the hospital causing severe damages. The fire service’s prompt response resulted in the containment of the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the medical facility.

The fire which completely destroyed G$30M in equipment also affected a total of 11 patients who had to be relocated. Though it was reported that arson is suspected, Fire Chief Kalamadeen Edoo told the Kaieteur News that they are unable to confirm this. Arson eh? seems more a terrorist act perhaps, against the current govt. and definitely, the people of the country. The loss of this equipment may eventually cost the lives of some people. Very sad, as it’s the equivalent of the health services in the country taking two steps forward and one back. Pull a stunt such as this in the Middle East and after a trial, hands will be chopped off if not heads.

    What trial?

Come on Kman. Democracy as practiced in the free world, requires a trial even when the cops are certain they have the guilty in custody. Of course the real problem with democracy is that the law(not justice which is not the same thing), takes a long time to prevail and results quite often in the guilty going free. The alternative of course, is unacceptable and the perps and sponsors(and no doubt there are sponsors) of this crime, are betting on. Sad my friend, very sad.
