As the poet Grace Nichols wrote in the 1990s: ‘Blackout is endemic to the land.’ Generations of Guyanese have suffered from an unreliable supply of electricity. When oil was discovered offshore in 2015, the possibility emerged of using some of the associated gas as a source of electricity. The Government of Guyana is now fast-tracking a project to pipe gas onshore from Liza 1 in the Stabroek Block and to develop a power plant.
.
The panel will include Fred Collins (President, Transparency International Guyana Inc, TIGI) and John Palmer, a civil society observer. Join them as they consider aspects of this proposal.
