Australia vs. West Indies at St Lucia in the 4th Twenty20 match – July 14, 2021.

Australia won the toss and batted first – 189/6. West Indies, 186/6.

It came down to the final over and West Indies needed 11 to win with strongman Andre Russell to face paceman Mitchel Starc.

The first five deliveries were dot balls, though three singles were turned down. Russell hit the final ball for six, but it was obviously not enough. Though entertaining and close, it was a missed opportunity.

In the previous (penultimate) over, all-rounder Fabian Allen had blasted 3 huge sixes to bring West Indies to the brink, but, unfortunately, he edged the final ball and was caught behind. It meant that one of the bowlers, a relatively unknown Hayden Walsh, came to the crease. It was now up to Russell.

All seemed well for the West Indies, but Starc had other ideas. He consistently bowled full into Russell’s pads and he was unable to free his hands. In the final analysis, it was a disappointing loss when you consider that it was there for the taking.
