US regulators have formally approved the single-shot Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine, the third jab to be authorised in the country.
The vaccine is set to be a cost-effective alternative to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and can be stored in a refrigerator instead of a freezer. Trials found it prevented serious illness but was 66% effective overall when moderate cases were included.

Feb 26, 2021 – Kaieteur News – In a judgment delivered yesterday, the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) allowed the appeal of Merlene Todd, a Guyanese embroiled in a battle over a city property, which was sold to her on the basis of a fake power of attorney. In confirming Todd’s ownership to the land, the CCJ urged the Government of Guyana to urgently consider reform of the Deed’s Registry Act.
According to a summary of its judgment, the CCJ outlined that Allan Price (now deceased) owned the West Half of Lot 153 Queenstown, Georgetown. Continue reading

The announcement last Thursday (February 18, 2021), that the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) was moving to implement a policy to regularise vending in Georgetown should have come as no surprise to anyone.
In fact, if anything, some might have questioned what took Mayor Ubraj Narine so long. One of the just four mayors Georgetown has had over the past three-plus decades, it was almost a given. He had to step up to address what is one of the city’s most pressing issues: vending.

Gold X Mining, a Canada-based company which operates the Toroparu mine in Guyana, has announced that it found high-grade gold during its recently concluded diamond drill programme, resulting in the company launching phase two of its drilling.
In a statement on February 23, the company was able to use historical drill data to encounter “significant” gold concentrations within and below the Toroparu main resource pit. According to the company, these gold structures are likely to be accessed by shallow and underground mining. Continue reading

It was a dark and dirty week.
A fifth member of the AFC resigned from party membership, because the thinking was the group has “lost its way.” No member has said the same thing publicly, as yet, about the PNC, but I have heard the same thing also uttered quietly that the PNC has lost its way, too.
From my perspective, the new PPP government, given its leadership deceptions and membership corruptions, is yet another example of a major group that has also lost its way. Continue reading →
