The UK and EU have agreed to carry on post-Brexit trade talks after a call between leaders earlier on Sunday.
In a joint statement, Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said it was “responsible at this point to go the extra mile”. The pair discussed “major unresolved topics” during their call.
The two sides had said Sunday was the deadline for a decision on whether to continue with talks, with the UK set to leave EU rules at the end of the month.
The leaders agreed to tell negotiators to carry on talks in Brussels “to see whether an agreement can even at this late stage be reached”.

What about the UK immigration policies? I do not see any open borders on the horizon. Every country protects their interests. I would not call that protectionist.

The UK voted to leave the EU. Now the want access to the largest market in the world without having to bare the costs. It’s like canceling the golf club membership and expecting to play golf for free at the club.

Brexit will be followed by Scotland leaving the union and Northern Ireland joining the far more prosperous Irish Republic to the south. If England is lucky, they might be able to retain Wales in the Union. Given that Welsh sheep farmers will loose their most important markets with the UK leaving the EU. 90% of Welsh lamb is exported tax-free into the EU. Brexit and its repercussions will be the final nails in the coffin harbouring the British Empire.
