Letter: From Bernadette Logan:

We are happy to report that our fundraising golf tournament is scheduled to proceed on Sept 12th this year, with a few amendments for COVID19 restrictions.

I would like to update you on our fundraising progress to date. Through the generous donations of you, my friends and family, plus a Corporate Donor, we have raised the funds needed to complete the construction of the Community Centre and 10 houses for the people of Baramita. All funds raised are being held by FFP Canada and only transferred to FFP Guyana, upon receipt of verifyable bills and contracts as the work progresses.

We are also pleased to say that construction of the Community Centre, which was delayed as a result of the COVID19 lockdown,  was started on August 20th and is expected to take 10 weeks to complete, barring any unforseen delays.

We are now raising funds for Phase 2 of the project to help the women and children of Baramita.

While we were there two years ago, it was clear that the village was in dire need of a shelter for women and children who are often the subjects of abuse, both at the hands of their husbands and fathers, as well as others who prey on the unprotected and vulnerable members of the village. Presently, these women and children have no place to go, where they can be safe and protected until their situation is resolved.

Therefore, our plans for Phase 2 is to build a safe house; a shelter for abused women and children in Baramita, as well as 10 more houses to help the families who are still living in makeshift tents without walls or doors to protect them from the elements or from predators. Our Corporate Donor has already agreed to donate $50,000 towards the safe house, so we are well on our way towards raising the total cost of $88,610.00, which is the estimated cost to complete this Phase.

I know this has been a difficult year for some of us and all charities are asking for more from us, as the the need has grown even greater over the past year due to the Pandemic.

So please know that I fully understand if you cannot support Baramita at the same level as you have in the past, but I hope that you will continue to lend your support in any way that you can.

Please read the two attachments which outline the situation in Baramita, seen through the eyes of Food for the Poor Guyana, who travelled there last year to make their own assessment and a Flyer outlining the details of playing in and supporting the Golf for Guyana fundraising event.

Kindly use the link on the flyer to sign up for the tournament, sponsor a hole or make a donation. When making a donation, please ensure it is for Guyana.

Thank you so much for your past and future support.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Much love to all,

Bernadette
