APNU-AFC: Granger and Ramjattan criticize the PPP/C’s Cabinet

Kaieteur News – August 6, 2020

The David Granger/Khemraj Ramjattan-led APNU+AFC coalition yesterday went on a tirade against the governing People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) following the appointment of the new Cabinet at the Arthur Chung International Conference Centre.

The coalition made it clear that it sees the appointment as a “rubberstamp” Cabinet under the “authoritarian” control of Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.
The coalition hurled insults at Jagdeo, and challenged the legitimacy of the Cabinet of President Irfaan Ali.

APNU+AFC sees new fraudulent ‘Cabinet’ as Jagdeo rubberstamp

The APNU+AFC Coalition has taken note of the PPP’s naming of ‘ministers’ who will now form a fraudulent ‘Cabinet’.

The naming of the various ‘ministers’, resulting from fraudulent elections, is in itself uninspiring and appears to be a hodge podge of misfits and Jagdeo loyalists.

The nation can expect to be besieged by nothing but blind loyalty to the dictates of Jagdeo – from the ‘President’ to the most junior ‘minister’. The new ‘Cabinet’, illegitimate as it is will be nothing more than a rubberstamp of Jagdeo’s maniacal control ‘freakism’. This ‘Cabinet’ is a creature of Jagdeo.

There is the return of Robeson Benn who picked up the moniker of ‘Bruck Up Benn’ during his tenure a Minister of Public Works. He is now appointed to the Home Affairs portfolio. This is a sad day for citizen safety and security in Guyana when a callous, heartless authoritarian as Benn is taking charge of Guyana’s public security.

The ordinary citizens would be justified in being engulfed in fear and trepidation as they go to bed tonight. It was Benn who barged into the National Communications Network and demanded that a local song be banned from the airwaves. This belligerent dictator is now being put in command of the security forces.

A tainted and toxic individual as Kwame McCoy who the PPP, in shame, hid from public view for the last five years suddenly surfaces and is made a ‘minister’. August 5, 2020 will be recorded as a day of infamy, shame and disgrace in Guyana’s national, governmental and parliamentary history.

Vickram Bharrat lacks experience and competence and is a complete misfit at the Ministry of Natural Resources. Mr. Bharrat does not even have the benefit of wither serving a full term as an opposition parliamentarian (he came in as a late replacement for Charles Ramson Jr.) nor did he shadow the portfolio.

Ramson Jr. must consider Bharrat’s appointment to Natural Resources as a slap in his face as he (Ramson Jr.) is the only member of the ‘Cabinet’ who hold qualifications in the oil and gas sector, yet he has been banished from this portfolio.

The appointments of Anand Persaud, Joe Hamilton and Nigel Dharamlall reek of gross incompetence and clearly demonstrates the dearth of quality leadership in the PPP.

It would appear as though the ‘Prime Minister’, Mark Phillips, is without portfolio, yet he has a junior ‘minister’ whom, it appears he will be required to babysit as his full-time occupation.

Notably, no appointment was made for the critical portfolio of finance. No mention was even made.

We take note too that several high-ranking PPP executives and leaders have been sidelined or discarded. These include Clement Rohee, the former General Secretary; Indra Chandarpaul, head of the women’s arm of the PPP; Robert Persaud, a former Minister of Natural Resources; Shyam Nokta, Odinga Lumumba, Harry Gill, Jennifer Westford, Africo Selman and Dharamkumar Seeraj, among others.

It is further evident that the Jagan legacy in the PPP has been unceremoniously demolished and discarded.

Today, Guyanese have witnessed what the APNU+AFC has warned of – that the PPP has not, in any way changed. It remains a one-man authoritarian cult and this has now been formalised with this fraudulent de facto ‘Cabinet’.

Apnu-Afc These people are Sore Losers. They are making a mockery of Democracy. They must be prosecuted for their blatant, irresponsible actions taking 4 months to declaring the winner of the March 2 election. These folks must never ever be given a chance to be in the Governing Guyana.again. They belong in the opposition just to wine, complain and bitch about everything. They are all about themselves.A bunch of thieves leaving Guyana Bankrupt. Where is the 18 million US Oil Bonus that Exon give them. Why they hide it from the Guyanese people.
They have the nerve to now to accuse and condemn. They destroy the sugar and rice industry. They are sore losers .No Guyanese should pay any attention to Granger, Ramjatan and Nagamotto. They are criminals and they should be behind bars where they belong..

Just keep one thing in mind, should anything happen that would prevent the President from fulfilling his duties, Jagdeo, as Vice President, cannot assume the role of President as he’s already served two terms in that position and the Constitution does not provide for such action. That is, of course, unless he plans to change the Constitution to allow such a move going forward.

    • brandli62  On August 7, 2020 at 3:45 am

I am assuming Jagdeo would need the support of the opposition to change the constitution. Hence, it is very unlikely that this will ever happen.

  • brandli62  On August 7, 2020 at 3:43 am

My advice for APNU+AFC is to focus on the election petition rather than criticising a government that barely has taken office. It just reads like you are a bad loser. Give the new government the traditional hundred days and then you can come forward with your grievances and criticism. However, stay constructive and keep to the facts. Defamation of individuals will just make you look bad and unprofessional. Regarding the election petition, they should make sure they have good case with sufficient evidence to back their points. Anything else will lead to travesty and defeat in court.

What evidence can possibly be unearthed that is new? That can shock the world? Are you looking for a jumbie man hiding in the closet? And when pull open the closet door you still see nothing? Give it a rest!

Don’t be surprised if Jagdeo is appointed Minister of Finance by his puppet. Another one to keep a close eye on is the Minister of NATURAL RESOURCES. Those two will pick Guyana clean.

It is only basic commonsense to have experience people who have been there before to advice and help to get Bankrupt Guyana out of the sewer that .
        APNU+AFC created.
Since all the APNU+AFC folks are good for is to wine and complain they have no constructive ideas to help Guyana and it’s people.
I predict from here on all they will do is to criticise no matter what the PPP do.
We have to ignore the APNU+AFC folks for they are now cry babies and sore losers.
Time for Guyana to move on and rebuild the agriculture industry and supply the world Rice and Sugar. Re- negotiate the shameful and ridiculous contract the APNU+AFC signed with Exon and don’t forget Guyana’s potential in Tourism.
There is a mountain of mess left to clean up so please send the complainers and whiners to plant something so they can contribute to Guyana’s economy.
PPP will need 15 years to get out of the hole and back on track so lets help Guyana by promoting Positivity and Creativity.
Guyana will be awesome without the WHINERS & COMPLAINERS APNU+AFC.

What experienced people are you talking about? Do you even live in Guyana and know any of those flunkies. That government is going to implode just give it time. If it’s one thing that they cannot control is COVID and that’s going to be around for a long time. I bet Jagdeo is sorry that the PPP did not invest in a proper health care system in the 23 years it ruled Guyana. The economy is in the outhouse with no recovery in sight for the near future. The Oil money they think they’re going to get….well we know America will be getting the lions share of that.

    • Curtis  On August 8, 2020 at 8:26 pm

You are a real stupid person. PPP was in power for 23 years….APNU for a little over 4 years. All the destruction you claim that APNU has done was in actual fact done by the PPP over a 23 year period. I know you’re enjoying having the PPP in power but don’t get carried away with your nonsensical statements. Take off the blinders.

  • C.S.D. Maraj  On August 7, 2020 at 3:43 pm

With all due respect.Let’s have a civil and unbiased dialogue. I am a Guyanese,
I love my country. Remembering the history of Guyana. When PPP took over from PNC. I remember well we were standing in line for food stuff like oil and flour.PPP changed that during the 2 terms Jagdeo and one term Romator that is 12 years in power no one stand in line for food products.Where were you?. Sugar and rice industry was still surviving. What happen in the last 4 years of APNU+AFC they fool the Guyanese people telling that with oil money they do not have to worry about rice and sugar so they shut down the sugar estates and depended on oil money so no one took the leadership to get markets for rice and sugar. What about Tourism. The first tourist ship came to Guyana during PPP watch. What happen in the last four years no one promote Tourism in a big way. They all sat and wait on OIL MONEY. During the years of Jagdeo term in Government all the infrastructure like roads paved all over Guyana from the Airport to Crabwood creek and even remote areas that never had paved roads all complemented with Concrete Bridges,Berbice River Bridge.More schools were built in the remote areas. There were electricity and drinking water in places that never had electricity or water . I travelled the length and breath of Guyana during the PPP time in government I know what I saw with my own eyes and I also travelled also the last 4 years and I saw the difference so no one can tell me otherwise.I do not support any political party,I am not a political person.I am a realist and I call it as I see it. I know what I see and experience in Guyana from the 60’s to 2020.
Let’s help and give the new Government a chance to make Guyana better for all Guyanese. One Nation,One People,One Destiny.

    • Georgy Porgy  On August 7, 2020 at 4:14 pm

With all due respect my behind!!! East Indians feel that they have some right of passage to govern Guyana. You not sounding at all as if you don’t support a particular party and I find it hard to believe that colour does not play a part in your magnanimous glowing report on the good old PPP days. Say whatever you want but keep this in mind, never again will Jagdeo be able to do to Afro Guyanese what he did during his 12 years in power. NEVER AGAIN!!! LET HIM DARE TRY!!!! APNU is not without blemish but that election was carefully orchestrated and backed by outside forces to put the PPP in power to fulfill and Agenda. The Guyanese people know that. One seat difference is nothing to brag about as a “we won” nor does it guarantee effective governance.

  • Kayume Baksh  On August 7, 2020 at 3:56 pm

Good stuff. Hopefully factual (I cannot verify). Reasonable request.

    • Anthony  On August 8, 2020 at 10:00 am

Please stop being foolish and deluded. Perhaps the PPP supporters should roll over let the PNC rule and reign forever. Bear in mind Guyanese can say vehemently just like you, NEVER a dictator gain. No more rigging and fraud. Only a matter of time before the PPP win over the PNC supporters as the PNC has nothing to offer them but lies and ignorance.

      • Kayume Baksh  On August 8, 2020 at 10:05 am

You don’t seem sure about what you want to say. Not my fault but sympathy to you.

      • Georgy Porgy  On August 8, 2020 at 8:34 pm

LOL….you are the foolish and delusional one if you think for one second that APNU supporters will throw their support with this government. The Carter Center has called on this President to urgently prioritize the cleaning up of the voting list….in other words, show the Guyanese people that you are an honest and upstanding government and believe in true Democracy. We shall see how long it takes for them to address this very important issue.
