Guyana Politics: Irfaan Ali sworn in as President – Mark Phillips as PM, Jagdeo as Vice President

Pres. Irfaan Ali

Stabroek News – August 2, 2020

Mohamed Irfaan Ali, 40,  was today declared the 9th Executive President of Guyana by GECOM Chairperson, Claudette Singh.

He was later sworn in as President at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre after a series of fast-moving events. Former GDF Chief of Staff Mark Phillips was sworn in as Prime Minister and former President Bharrat Jagdeo was sworn in as Vice President. Anil Nandlall was sworn in as Attorney General and Gail Teixeira as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.

Other Cabinet appointments are to be made later.

The announcement of the new President came this afternoon after Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield submitted the results of the March 2nd general elections using the recount figure which shows a victory for the PPP/C.

The Chair has then wrote Chancellor of the Judiciary, Justice Yonette Cummings advising of the result and requesting that arrangements be made to facilitate the swearing in. These arrangements were then swiftly put in place for the swearing in.

Lowenfield  made the submission this afternoon to the GECOM Chair  paving the way for the long-awaited declaration of the result and potentially ending a five-month-old crisis.

      “I don’t recall Guyana ever having a Vice President. “ G. Porgy?

Look up history and it will save the exposure.

After Burnham introduced a new unconventional constitution in the the 1980 fraudulent election, he appointed five Vice Presidents- including Hamilton Green and Desmond Hoyte. The stooges were Bish Ramsaroop, Mohamed Shahsbuddeen, and Ranji Chandisingh.

    From Cyril Bryan. Editor,

This article says that President Irfaan Ali was the 9th President.
    Actually…There were a total of 10 Presidents.
Arthur Chung, the first President, was a Ceremonial President.
He was followed by nine Executive Presidents. President Ali is the ninth Executive President.
    SEE ….

    Thank you.

To All my fellow Guyanese. I know some of You are bitter with all that happened but it is time to start a new leaf with caution. It is a new beginning lets not dwell in the past and allow all our energies being devoured in unproductive resolutions.
We must learn from the past and make our government officials accountable regardless of their political stripe. We are lucky to have a democracy and we must always remember people with power will always try to break the norms so we the people must hold them accountable with transparency. In democracy there is a process,it takes time so we must be patience.Let the Democratic process do justice to those guilty.Lets be positive in what we do and say.
In the True spirit of all Guyanese lets listen and help each other.Make our country awesome show the world an example of who we are.
There are better days ahead what happen recently in the political realm was a true Test of Democracy in Guyana the people spoke and won.Time to move on.
Guyana first and politics last. Life is so so short Enjoy. The land of six Nations all united as one people and one shared destiny. God Bless Our Country Guyana.
