Guyana Elections: CCJ ready to sit to hear Guyana elections case if appealed

The Guyana Court of Appeal will rule at 11:00 hrs Thursday July 30, 2020

With just one more day left before the Guyana Court of Appeal hands down its decision on whether the recounted votes should be used to declare a winner of the March 2020 elections, there are concerns that the matter could be stalled because the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) will be heading into recess.

But according to CCJ’s Acting Senior Public Education and Communications Officer Semone Moore, if the matter is appealed to the CCJ, because of the national importance of this case, the court could make special arrangements to hear it and deliver a timely judgement.

Guyana: GuySuCo misses sugar target again – Blames strikes – GAWU rejects claims

GuySuCo saw a sugar production shortfall in the first crop for 2020 by over 9000 tonnes. The company produced a total of 37,015 tonnes of sugar during the first crop. It was hoping to produce 46,476 tonnes during the first crop, instead.

GuySuCo said 50 strikes took place across the three sugar estates- Blairmont, Albion, and Uitvlugt–  resulting in 13,868 loss in mandays and a loss of production totalling 2,307 tonnes.

The Government of Guyana wishes to announce it’s repatriation flight for Guyanese in Canada on Friday August 14, 2020 from Toronto to Georgetown (direct). Guyanese in Canada, who wish to be repatriated on the said flight are required to:

(1) To register with the Guyana Consulate in Toronto via telephone # 416-494-6040, 416-494-6059 or 416-494-2679 or via email : info@guyanaconsulate.com.
