Presidential candidate for A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) , David Granger on Friday night announced that his coalition wants the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to subtract fake votes such as those allegedly cast in the names of overseas people.
“We are also committed to ensuring that every legitimate vote is counted but at the same time, we’re committed to removing the illegitimate votes. We are committed to ensuring that bogus votes, that people who were not in the jurisdiction, people who have no form of identification will not be allowed to vote,” President Granger told Benschop Radio.
This is the clearest position yet from the incumbent coalition after weeks of deflecting questions on what it wanted the GECOM to do in light of claims that the March 2, 2020 general and regional elections were not credible because they were riddled with fraud and other irregularities.
The coalition has said GECOM’s observation reports show that there were 7,929 instances of irregularities “which directly affect the validity of 257,173 votes.
APNU+AFC and the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) each has three representatives on the seven-member Elections Commission which means that the decision essentially rests with the Chairman, Retired Justice Claudette Singh.
Granger lamented that the “bloated” voters list of more than 690,000 names had been used by “certain corrupt elements to corrupt the election process.” He said the recount process has uncovered the corruption.
Executive member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Aubrey Norton first hinted at the route the coalition would take in the commission when he told Prime Time Caribbean that GECOM should remove irregularities before making a declaration failing which the polls should be declared null and void because they would not be deemed credible.
Earlier Friday, PPP General Secretary Bharrat Jagdeo said the Elections Commission could not function as a court of law to hear complaints by political parties or declare the elections null and void.
The PPP continues to maintain that it has won the elections based on the recount and any questions about the results must be addressed in an elections petition to the High Court in accordance with Guyana’s Constitution and the Representation of the People Act.
The Representation of the People Act states that a vote is invalid if it is unstamped, any writing or mark by which the voter can be identified, not marked for any list of candidates or is void of any uncertainty, and votes given for more than one list of candidates.
Pro-coalitionists say GECOM, in keeping with the gazetted recount order, is relying on Article 162(b) which states that it shall issue such instructions and take such action as appear to it necessary or expedient to ensure impartiality, fairness and compliance with the provisions of the Constitution or any Act of Parliament.
UPDATE: June 13. 2020 — (From Stabroek News)
Chief Election Officer, Keith Lowenfield today delivered his report to GECOM Chair Claudette Singh with the tabulations for the 10 electoral districts and a summary of the controversial observation reports that had been raised by APNU+AFC agents during the 33-day recount of votes from the March 2nd general elections.
How Lowenfield treats with the discredited APNU+AFC complaints will be of great interest as would be the Chair’s response to them.
The CARICOM observer team is also expected to submit its report on the recount shortly.
This marks the completion of the second stage of the four-part process.
GECOM Chair, Retired Justice Claudette Singh will now present the report to the Commissioners of GECOM where it will be deliberated before making a final declaration.
The final declaration is expected to be made on or before June 16.

When will all this corruption stop in Guyana. Since I was a little girl, this was happening . I’m a grown woman now and the corruption is still there. Very sad Guyana.
Why didn’t he request the ‘bogus’ votes to be removed before?
Guyana is a lost country and the general population are following their respective ‘leaders’ blindly. They cannot see beyond their noses, and this is sad.
When the white governments of Britain and the US divided the country, we followed them blindly. We are doing the same today and the whites are having a bellyful of laughter.
The bogus votes were not discovered until after the recount at which time the irregularities surfaced. Every vote must carry a stamp. The bogus votes that President Granger is referring to are the 7,929 votes that had no stamps. Now that’s quite a large amount of votes that are basically fraudulent and I think it definitely warrants investigating.
Bank to the courts we go. The USA is no longer the world’s laughing stock, Guyana is, now you have something foreign.
Yes, but how come they didn’t discover this on the first count. I can smell the fish.
The general population should storm the parliament and take over.
Ms Jaikaran and Lman, here is a late today’s video explaining how the Chief Elections Officer Lowenfield, who already attempted to give his corrupt report on Mingo’s utterly false Region 4 numbers so that the “statesman” Granger aka “the sanctimonious gangster” could remain President – until the whole world of observers denounced what they were up to. Now after a recount and a CERTIFIED vote count giving the PPPc a resounding win (by 15,400 votes) he is overstepping his statute-bound duties to pass negative judgement on his own elections, using what the Granger appointees on GECOM falsely concocted. This is the travesty that the Granger administration is committing right before our and the WHOLE WORLD’s eyes.
This is further a clear indication that Granger and his clique will NOT demit office (which they have already overstayed for a year and a half). They have the army on their side so they can remain until eternity. This is the sad story of Guyana, which began about 65years ago.

There is NO bogus vote. Granger is out to incite African Guyanese to take to streets to claim that the RECOUNTED elections results showin the PPPc the winner is bogus.
Freddie Kissoon (no friend of the PPP, Indians and esp Hindus and whose articles used to a regular feature on this blog) has this to say today (Jun 14) about the ELECTIONS RESULTS and the attempt by Guyanese ultra Black activists saying there is ‘a knee on African Guyanese’ to also have the elections nullified.
Kissoon:
“[Prof. David Hinds] is using the legitimacy of Black struggle in the US to justify human rights violations in Guyana including the denial of the sacred right to vote and the people who are perpetuating these brutality in Guyana are not non-Black on Black Guyanese. It is Black leadership in a Black party.
(Comment: This is what I have been demonstrating here with personal, word of mouth and established evidence)
Kissoon continues:
“This is what you call the PNC’s knee on the neck of Black Guyanese. This is the kind of knee David Hinds should denounce. What this kind of knee is? It is the PNC USING AND ABUSING AFRICAN GUYANESE of Georgetown and in East Coast and East Bank villages, INCITING THEM to take to the streets not to protest overt wrongs in society but in a demonstration of bullyism TO REJECT THE LEGITIMATE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION THAT ONLY THE PNC AND THEIR SYCOPHANTIC WRITERS SAY WERE ILLEGAL.”
Comment: I have written, with evidence, (and discussed with many people outside this blog for the last few months – as I explain in my recent book ) and on another thread that the Guyana situation is exactly 180 degrees different from the situation in USA. This is also what Kissoon is saying
The Black PNC party is the oppressor. We are winessing the birth of a BLACK DICTATORSHIP in Guyana!

I agree with Kissoon…It is ridiculous
