GPF refutes claims of providing false information to GECOM

stands by information provided to GECOM

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, June 2, 2020

The Guyana Police Force is refuting claims that it has provided the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) with false immigration information.

This follows the publication of an article in Kaieteur News dated June 2, 2020, under the headline “Top Cop gives false information to Claudette Singh.”

The article is suggesting that the immigration information provided by the Force is false and that several persons who are named on the list, never left the country and are still in the jurisdiction.

However, the Force in a statement stated that “the Administration of the Force iterates that migration data produced by the Immigration Department of the Guyana Police Force is generated through its record system which includes an Electronic Border Management System.”

The GPF further stressed that the system “does not record persons who travelled illegally” and that it “stands by the information provided to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and categorically refutes the article mentioned.”

Yesterday it was revealed that upon request, the Commissioner of Police, Leslie James provided Chairperson of GECOM, (retd) Justice Claudette Singh with information that indicated of the 207 names submitted by the ANPU+AFC, 172 of them were found to be out of the jurisdiction on March 2 for the General and Regional Elections.

The APNU+AFC has noted that the recount process is revealing that the names of many persons have appeared as having voted but they were not in the country. The Coalition has said this points to electoral fraud.
