HISTORY: Buried for 50 years: Britain’s shameful role in the Biafran war – By Frederick Forsyth

A million children starved to death. I’m haunted by the images I saw there – and by the complicity of the Wilson government

It is a good thing to be proud of one’s country, and I am – most of the time. But it would be impossible to scan the centuries of Britain’s history without coming across a few incidents that evoke not pride but shame.

Among those I would list are the creation by British officialdom in South Africa of the concentration camp, to persecute the families of Boers. Add to that the Amritsar massacre of 1919 and the Hola camps set up and run during the struggle against Mau Mau.

Am sure there will be many more revelations
to follow as “secrets” become de-classified.
WW1+2 has many “secrets” which are now
being made public. History “forgiven” not forgotten.
The brutality of humans to humans and animals
exist today …history teaches us of past mistakes yet we repeat over and over again.
Are we but fools in paradise ?

    Go figure

“Missionaries had noticed mothers emerging from the deep bush carrying children reduced to living skeletons yet with bloated bellies…Back then, the British public had never seen such heartrending images of starved and dying children.”
Those images made the press in Canada, as well. In 1975, my wife and I were returning from Montreal and Quebec in a bus. Some youths behind us made disparaging remarks about us as Biafrans. Instead of them showing empathy for the starving people they found it laughable.

Similar behaviour is expressed by posters here about Indians who are said to have fled India to indentureship (10,500 miles away) to Guyana because of famines.

Little do they know that the British created these famines as they changed the land use in India from food production to industrial products – Hemp and Cotton, etc – as feedstock for the mills in Britain, Tea for the British palate and Poppy/Opium for export to China. When Churchill, who exported Indian grain to Britain and for WWII allies while Indians were starving, was asked about the 1943 famine his retort was “Isn’t Gandhi dead yet”?

Regarding the “Amritsar massacre of 1919”, Gen Dyer directed his soldiers to open fire point blank and on the narrow escape passageways/gateway of a walled area on trapped Sikhs and Hindus celebrating a Spring festival (Baisakhi), massacring about a thousand including women and children and leaving thousands wounded. Dyer forbade any medical help, not even a cup of water, for the wounded left dying over a 24 hour period.

The Tyranny of an Institutional Lie

There is another significant issue described by Forsyth: “In London I had been copiously briefed by Gerald Watrous, head of the BBC’s West Africa Service. What I did not know was that he was the obedient servant of the government’s Commonwealth Relations Office (CRO), which believed every word of its high commissioner in Lagos, David Hunt. It took two days in Enugu to realise that everything I had been told was utter garbage.”
So who was Hunt? “A racist and a snob, Hunt expected Africans to leap to attention when he entered the room – which Gowon did. At their single prewar meeting Ojukwu did not. Hunt loathed him at once.” Gowan was the “brutal military dictatorship” ruling colonel, whereas, Ojukwu was the Biafran military leader.

What we see here is how the official British position had been falsified into a tyranny by their high commissioner in Lagos and the BBC.

In another part of the world, another falsification for close to 200 years has been applied to define a people; and is being parroted in every textbook and by the likes of Profs Clem Seecharan and Kean Gibson leading to the vilification of the people and their leaders.

For those who don’t want to read about India and Hindus, suggest you stop reading now.

For over about 240 years a British professor noticed a link between Indian Sanskrit and European languages. This led another German-English professor to claim that Hindus are derived from Central Asian invaders of India who drove the dark-skinned natives to South India thus leading to untouchability and the caste system. This unsupported claim became conflated with an Aryan Race which manifested as the Nazis.

The problem with this claim is that it has NO credible basis to support it. There is NO evidence from Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Literature (Sanskrit/Hindu texts) nor Genetics to support it. In fact the Genetics tend to show just the opposite – that rather than an influx of Central Asians it is an outflow out of India that in more likely. What the Genetics also show are that ALL Indians are a mixture derived from two ancient ancestral groups (at least 30-40,000 years old). North Indians tend to be fairer because they are more towards a temperate zone whereas, South Indians are closer to the Tropics, hence darker.
(I will deal with the Genetics and other evidence in a book perhaps in a year’s time supporting the outflow likelihood).

The danger of this fable – known as the Aryan Invasion Theory (AIT) – is that it leads to the vilification of Hindus. Indian Prime Minister Modi, his BJP party and associated groups (eg., RSS) are facing denunciations as Nazi-loving racists based of this concocted theory. Whatever policies he tries to put through such as the current Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB/CAA) to give 30,000 long suffering religious minorities – Sikhs, Christians, Hindus, Parsis/Zoroastrians, Jains and Buddhists – who escaped persecution from the three intolerant Muslims adjacent or nearby states but cannot take-up employment or own property in India, he is deemed racist and anti-Muslim (for not including Muslims escaping Muslim countries ???).

Similarly, by rescinding/abrogating an outstanding special privilege since independence for Indian-administered Kashmir to bring them in line with the rest of India, he is again seen as racist (as the ironically very fair-skinned Pakistani PM Imran Khan claims). In fact, what Imran Khan is referring to by claiming “racism” is the very AIT. If anyone is racist it is he and his Pakistan (of Arab, Turkish and Persian blood) which unleased a pogrom on dark-skinned former Bengali East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in 1971 causing 10 million refugees fleeing to India.

But like the British cum BBC twisted narrative on Biafra, all Western media (BBC, Economist, NY Times, Al Jazeera, Washington Post, CNN, Toronto Star, to name a few and the Christian Churches and Muslim organizations) and universities subscribe to or teach the false AIT which pigeon-holes and vilifies Hindus as racists/Nazis.

Aside, from PM Modi, there is a contender for the nomination of the US 2020 Democratic Party who is facing this negative association with Hinduism. Tulsi Gabbard, a Samoan-Hawaiian Hindu, who has met Mr Modi on occasions, now keeps far because she feels she is tainted.

Recently, while campaigning for the New Hampshire primary, she was accosted at a Town Hall meeting by anti-RSS/Modi protestors. Last year, she even avoided attending a World Hindu Conference in the US saying she had other conflicting commitments (where even Black Ghanians attended); and last year when Mr Modi was greeted and toasted by 50,000 American-Hindus at an event in Houston, USA she again just sent him best wishes, but kept her distance.

Such is the power of the Aryan Invasion Theory and the media/echo chamber of lies and misinformation about Hindus.

      Bitter sweet memories….
      Best forgiven not/never forgotten.
Yet we repeat them today !
We are but fools in paradise !

      The evil that men do
      Lives after them
The good buried with their bones.

My wish my hope my dream…
      The good that men do
      Lives after them
The evil buried with their bones

      Today most are cremated
      Few are buried

That’s the world we have created !

      My illiterate grandmother taught me
If you make a bed of roses
      You sleep in it
      Make one of thorns
You will also sleep in it

      Philosophically yours
