Those memorable surroundings which had cradled my entire life of childhood intimacy were replaced by the incursion of a huge, unsightly greenheart wood structure.  Continue reading →

OPINION: Blacks: Leaders, Choices and Voices – By Yvonne Sam

11/11/2019 – 12:27 am

   – By Yvonne Sam

In Mis-Education of the Negro, Carter Woodson the father of Black History asserts, “Blacks sometimes choose their own leaders but unfortunately they are too often the wrong kind. WE do not readily follow persons with constructive programs. Almost any sort of exciting appeal or trivial matter presented to them may receive immediate attention and liberal support.

In many circles we have become so intellectually lazy that we will believe just about anything from anyone, that is, as long as long as we do not have to do anything except trumpet a  Promised Land/ Eden  message, and if we never have to sacrifice for the collective benefit of each other. While the community has always had to deal with these miscreants we have been reluctant to call them out- to expose them for what they really are.          Continue reading →

… Victoria Village … Guyana’s First Village

President Granger addresses residents

Nov 11, 2019  News

“The Guyanese nation will be forever grateful to Victoria.”
President David Granger made this statement on Saturday evening, as he addressed thousands of East Coast of Demerara residents, at the Victoria Community Centre Ground.

Headlining the village’s commemoration ceremony in honour of the 180th anniversary of its purchase, the Head of State said that long before he became president, he selected the historic day as the National Day of Villages due to the date of its purchase. This was done by way of a parliamentary motion on November 7, 2013, but never assented to or implemented by the then PPP government.            Continue reading →
