Guyana: Do celebrate, if you are 60 Years or older- by Francis Quamina Farrier

On October 1, most countries around the world, including Guyana, will be observing International Day of Older Persons. This special day which was established by the United Nations in 1991, has been set aside to focus on the world’s increasing population of Older Persons, and to honour them for the work which they have done during their more productive years.

At this time, there are approximately 700 million Persons who are sixty years and older around the world, according to a Untied Nations disclosure. With such information, some smart and astute Politicians who are running for office, recognize the wisdom in going the extra mile to ensure that Elders are shown respect, which they realize will certainly transfer into VOTES for them.
Extension of Constitutional deadline would affect PPP’s ability to recover “stolen” resources – Jagdeo
There will be no extension of the Constitutional deadline for the holding of General and Regional Elections,
because it will impair the ability of a potential People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Government to recover what the party considers stolen assets. Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo, at his weekly press conference yesterday, asserted that President David Granger’s request for the Opposition to support the extension is political blackmail. Guyanese `Cash jet’ pilot jailed for 13 years over drug trafficking, money laundering in USA

Khamraj Lall, the man who had a private hangar at the CJIA, Timehri was sentenced today to 156 months in prison for trafficking hundreds of kilogrammes of cocaine into New Jersey and New York in the US and then laundering over US$10.2 million in cash drug proceeds, US Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
Lall had once transported former President Donald Ramotar in his plane and his apparent preferential treatment at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri had raised questions about who had done due diligence on him. He was held by US authorities after a large amount of cash was found aboard his plane when he made a stop in Puerto Rico en route to Guyana. Continue reading
