Investment from China is transforming the commerce and architecture in Georgetown, Guyana. We examine the global impact of China’s Belt and Road Initiative as it affects Georgetown.
CORRECTION: Africa’s debts to China, Angola 🇦🇴 owes $42.8 Billion USD, Ethiopia owes 13.7 Billion USD, Kenya owes 9.8 Billion USD. My calculations of the exchange rate to USD was off by a factor of 10. These are figures from 2017. Guyana owed China 145.6 million USD at the end of 2016.

I believe that we must have a balance, exercise wisdom not only re Chinese, but the others who come from other countries to do business. As a nation we must ensure that our people benefit from all investments in our country. We must look out for us first in the long-term. We must examine China’ s strategy in engaging in economic ventures.

Did mention before [where??] Guyana should say NO, too late? let the Chinese build the road from Guyana to Brazil, at their cost.
On completion, Guyana could block it toll it do whatever. Unlike the other struggling countries, broke ass, Guyana has/will have a few bucks to build the connection on it’s own.
Everything China does is one hundred percent for themselves, they bribe the weak and crooked leaving the poor countries in a financial mess.
Apart from expanding the ‘Belt” as their master plan, I am sure immigration is their hidden agenda, this was shown in their tendency to use their own labor force.
If this arrangement goes south maybe someone should put a “Trump Microscope”
on the people who signed off, just saying.
