Guyanese born first black female Deputy Chief of Police in Canada Ingrid Berkeley Brown receives Outstanding Woman award at the Ramadan Interfaith Gala and presented to her is the former MPP of Ontario, Dr Shafiq Qaadri, on the occasion of raising funds for school children whose parents are laid off after the sugar factory closed in Skeldon, Guyana.

The event was held on June 01, 2018 at the Elite Banquet Hall. Toronto Ontario. Canada.

Confronted with overall national debt that has more than doubled in the 10 years by the last government, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley has wasted no time in suspending liability payments and calling in the International Monetary Fund.

Following a meeting with leaders of the trade unions and the private sector, Mottley announced one week after winning elections that the nation’s finances are so dire that it cannot stay afloat while meeting obligations.       Continue reading

SOCU prepares to charge Singh, Brassington for selling Sanata Complex below value

One month after two of the highest ranking officials of the previous People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government were slapped with charges of Misconduct in Public Office, Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) Prosecutors are prepared to institute another charge against Former Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh and former head of National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) Winston Brassington.

Yesterday, SOCU Prosecutor Lawrence Harris appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus with the new charge. However the men were not in court for the matter to be read to them by the Magistrate.     Continue reading
