New York: The Phagwah Parade at 30!
In a raw and bitter winter a miracle happened. The biting winds gave way to a clear and cloudless sky with warm temperatures. Liberty Avenue, in Queens New York, became the scene of revelry as magnificent floats, music, confetti and colored powder took over the streets. It was the 30th Annual Phagwah Parade and thousands were out to celebrate it in style.
The Parade has become an institution. According to the New York Times, the Phagwah Parade ‘is the single biggest street festival in Queens.’ What started with 70 hardy souls has grown to become a much-loved event that attracts people from all parts of the world.
