Cuba receives its one-millionth visitor for 2018 – despite US warnings

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) — The arrival on Thursday March 8. 2018  of its first one-millionth vacationer to Cuba reaffirms the recognition of the island as a peaceful and safe destination despite the travel warnings issued by the US State Department.

The result, achieved four days after the similar date of 2017, has been possible amidst the reinforced campaign organized and directed by the US government to stop the flow of US visitors to the Caribbean island, the Ministry of Tourism reported on Thursday March 8. 2018.      Continue reading

MUSIC:Calypso legend Harry Belafonte celebrated his birthday attending a tribute concert in his honor at City College on March 1. The 91-year-old was front and center at the “Turn the World Around: The Music and Legacy of Harry Belafonte,” as he was serenaded with a show of his classic hits.

When you use the Metro, pay attention and perhaps you’ll see an operator standing on the platform’s yellow stripe, waving red flags. He might go unnoticed in the crowd, but he’s a manual controller and he uses the flags to authorize the upcoming train to enter the station.

If you see him, it means that there’s no communication between the trains and the operations center. The trains lower the speed to 15 km/h in those cases, a common occurrence now.    Continue reading
