PROMOTING COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH IN GUYANA
A Resource Guide for Practitioners
Points from the Guyanese professionals who worked in the diverse communities:
- the need to understand the complexity of culture;
- examples and guidelines for engaging community residents and social/public health practitioners; and
- recommendations on self-care health and well-being techniques for the practitioners serving in multiple conditions.
The summer months of 2017 were a time of celebration of Guyanese Indigenous heritage. Looking back, two comments stand out that show the connectedness of South Americans and North Americans. Guyana’s Vice President and Minister of Indigenous Peoples Affairs, Sydney Allicock attended the GCA of New York Awards. In his keynote speech, he made poignant observations regarding the setting of the occasion and its spotlight attendees.
