Sorry, I couldn’t stomach to watch more than 5 minutes of this video. It lost me at “a country of 6 races” I knew not to expect much but I endured a bit to see if it would get better. It didn’t. With Guyana having the impossibility of 6 races, someone ought to contact ‘Ripley’s Believe it or Leave it’ to get a mention in one of their museums or books. The blurb would be something along these lines:

There is only one country in the entire world that has 6 races, double the number of races identified and documented by man. What could be the reason for this strange phenomenon? As it turns out, this was the setting of H.G. Wells famous novel The Island of Dr Moreau. Although Wells claimed that this story was fiction, he did borrow his idea from secret experiments that have been carried out over time. This aroused the curiosity of scholars and scientists who decided to see for themselves. Upon coming into contact with citizens and inhabitants, they were astounded to discover that some bore an uncanny resemblance to ape-man, hyena-swine and dog-man. The compelling evidence led them to believe that indeed this is a country of 6 races.

My brother is trying to get us to visit Guyana next year for a family reunion. I flat out said NO to ever visiting Guyana again, so he tried to get my sister to change my mind. I suggested she read Guyana news to get an idea, knowing fully well she would soon be the next one needing convincing. We’re doing a two weeks Chile, Peru and Argentina trip instead. We’ll still be visiting South America but steering very clear of Guyana. The more I psychoanalyze myself, the more I realize how my life is Guyana was equivalent to living in a concentration camp.

You are what you think. You may have left Guyana but the hate and anger connected to Guyana has not left you. Maybe if you revisit Guyana annd confront what you hate you may find love and understanding.

How sad people are ashamed of their own birth country ! Concentration camp? Well that is a disgusting exaggeration ! Was your head shaved, beaten , starved, used for experiments or family gassed? I don’t think so.

Many thanks to producer Mike Charles, narrator Michella Ali and contributor Dave Martins for presenting to the world this amazing and educational video montage of Guyana.

It encapsulates the breathtaking and stunning natural beauty of the landscape, the awesome mountain ranges, the spectacular, tumbling waterfalls, the rumbling, raging rivers, the pristine, virgin rainforest, the expansive grasslands, historic relics of the colonial occupiers, exotic wildlife, and the industrious Amerindian peoples and their ways of life.

Today, Guyana is one of only a handful of places on earth where nature remains relatively intact and unspoiled by man’s destructive claws and it should be appreciated, more so if it happens to be the land of your birth.

    Ron.
