Marriott Hotel in Georgetown Guyana – 2 videos

This ia a video featuring the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown Guyana. It was shot form the sky in the mid afternoon of one of the last days of spring 2016.

It also shows the Pegasus Hotel; and the Atlantic Ocean shoreline of Georgetown going east.  The camera was operated by Aram Hekinian.

Guyana’s Rain-forest and river

The rainforests are a powerhouse of diversity. They contain more than half of the animal and plant species on the planet. Many of the medicines that we use today are from plants in the rainforests. Food sources are to be found in the forests as well and we are reminded in the popular media that the rainforests are the ‘lungs of the world.’

This means that they store about 20 per cent of the world’s oxygen. But they also absorb a great portion of the man-made carbon dioxide emissions.    Continue reading →

Under the rubric, “The journey to the good life continues,” Finance Minister, Winston Jordan, presented to the nation yesterday, a $267.1B budget. This is a 7.1 percent increase over the revised Budget 2017.

Ever wonder why a draft from the Bank of Ontario was found on the corpse of John Wilkes Booth? The Montreal branch of the bank was one of the places that Robin Philpot, my Canadian publisher, pointed to when he took me on a tour of the Confederates’ Montreal hangouts. I also saw the grounds where the Royal Theater once stood. Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Davis were greeted with a rousing rendition of “Dixie” when they attended a performance after the war.

Davis received a hero’s welcome when he joined his spouse, the destitute Varina, and their children. They had been brought to Montreal where they were housed handsomely in a home owned by publishing magnate, John Lovell. One of those Montreal visitors was John Wilkes Booth, who, while living there, boasted about a scheme to kidnap President Lincoln.     Continue reading →
