IRISH: THE FORGOTTEN WHITE SLAVES – By Ronald Dwyer

They came as slaves: human cargo transported on British ships bound for the Americas. They were shipped by the hundreds of thousands and included men, women, and even the youngest of children.
Whenever they rebelled or even disobeyed an order, they were punished in the harshest ways. Slave owners would hang their human property by their hands and set their hands or feet on fire as one form of punishment. Some were burned alive and had their heads placed on pikes in the marketplace as a warning to other captives.
We don’t really need to go through all of the gory details, do we? We know all too well the atrocities of the African slave trade.
But are we talking about African slavery? King James VI and Charles I also led a continued effort to enslave the Irish. Britain’s Oliver Cromwell furthered this practice of dehumanizing one’s next door neighbor.

We do not normally think of white people as slaves.
No one like Irish in uk.they call them.black Irish..very sad as they are lovely friendly people. My neighbours were Irish and we called them Aunty and uncle.
I am surprised that the Irish did not hop on a boat to British Guiana from Barbados, back then they would have had better opportunities, I believe.
The white man’s greater shame. What would be his greatest, I wonder? Child slavery? Forcing their women to breed with black males to produce the desired inside slave (not quite their own, yet clean and pleasing on the eye to cook, clean and care for them)? Or the widespread eugenics that they engaged in to cover up their crime and greatest shame?
It is why some white women hate white men to the extent that they purposely go out with black men to punish white men – and the white men know it. These women are pretty bitter and hard about what was done to their people. On the other hand, some white women do because they’re drug addicts and the guys are their drug pimps. Either behaviors are self destructive and detrimental to their well being and happiness.
On a side note: I had two students, unrelated, who were the product of these relationships. Student one mom had a restraining order against the father who was in jail anyway, so he was no longer in the picture. A stepdad is in the picture but the kid was on the cusp of wanting to be good and wanting to be bad. We had lots of conversations about good and bad choices affecting one’s success in life that seemed to, but who knows. Student two parents were separated but both had custody. However, the kid was a hot mess and a mean big bully. And they tried to do the same with me. I was played like a freaking yo-yo between the two parents trying to one up each other. The mom was safe but (weak and helpless) the father scared the daylights out of me even though he pretended to be nice. The kid was kicked out of the previous school because he had threatened to beat up the teacher and burn down the school. I never met with him alone whenever he wanted a meeting and he always wanted to meet. I finally told him AND the school personnel that I not only was I not qualified to give his child the support and help needed because I was just a school teacher and not a counselor, but my responsibility was to all my students not just this student. The child was subsequently referred to receive outside help and I never had any more dealings with the dad except through routine emails having to do with academic progress. (The white man’s actions are living on to this day in these families and their children.)
@ Lesli – the Slavs were early “white slaves” in Europe. Hence the similarity in name. The history is just as ugly but young victims – both boys and girls – were sold as sex objects to Arabs, Asians and North Africans/Arabs.
@ Nadira – saying “no one like Irish in the uk” is a broad statement and not factual. While they may be some who might not like the Irish, there are Brits who proudly brag about having Irish blood, and Scottish, too. Scots were also sold into slavery.
@ Clive – where do you get the simplistic idea that these folks could have simply “hop on a boat to British Guiana”?
In American history (the real one) white women have been brutalize during the 19th century in the West. Young ones were captured/kidnapped like slaves and sold to “whore houses” and held for prostitution to reward the brothel owners. Many of the saloons you see in western movies were really common place brothels. A man pay a fee to screw the woman he want in a room upstairs. You never read about how widespread prostitution was ( and still is)in American history.
I think what I have said is factual because when the immigrants were moving to uk.in the 50’s and 60’s. The British Land lord use to put up a sign at the window that said no blacks no animals and Irish.

According to Queen Elizabeth we in America write English differently.
What is not mentioned is that the Christian religion is at the heart of the unfair ‘slavish’ treatment of the Irish. It started with Henry VIII breaking away from the Papacy over anulment quarrel with the papacy and adopting Protestantism/Church of England status while the Irish remained firmly Catholics. The Catholic Irish landowners were first displaced by the vengeful English and Scots; followed by invasion and dominance.
Here we have followers of the (meek) Christ inhumanely ill-treating other followers of said Christ because of a difference in Christian doctrine.
Pity how the two major Abrahamic religions (Christianity and Islam) claim to be ‘religions of peace’ yet are known for the worst slaughter and enslavement of other human beings throughout history.
