Bonita Montique visiting hospitalized Guyanese man in NY facility

A Guyanese man has been hospitalized in a Manhattan New York facility for almost two weeks after he was picked up off the streets by health care workers in an unconscious state.

After being taken to the hospital,  doctors learned the man suffered from epilepsy which reportedly caused his injuries, as he fell and hit his head and is now suffering from a fractured neck and memory loss.
The man gave his name as  Ishmael Mohamed, formally of Port Mourant C/tyne Berbice and now of Jamaica, Queens New York. He also gave his age as 52.       Continue reading

Can one person really make a difference?

Can an individual change the world by doing good? We hear the wonderful words of inspiration from some of the leading thinkers of our time. Many believe they can lift mountains if they put their minds to it. It is not rocket science to think that one person can change the world if that person applies him or herself to the task ahead.

Making a difference is about creating changes that will benefit others. There will be challenges but one should hold a firm course and not be distracted. Mahatma Gandhi has said that we must be the change that we want to see. The anthropologist Margaret Mead has stated that, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful and committed citizens can change the world. Wayne McDonald, director of Caribbean Cultural Theatre has announced an impressive list of Caribbean authors who will headline their works, that the artists said would take patrons on a Journey of (Re)Discovery into Caribbean Literary Classics Old and New, during WorldFest, an afternoon-long literary event on Sunday 11, from 12 noon to 7 pm, at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton St., Brooklyn, New York.

Guyana: No advances on oil revenues- Finance Minister Jordan

Finance Minister Winston Jordan on Monday ruled out Guyana taking advances from oil revenues to help stimulate the economy, warning that to do so would be fraught with danger in a country where there is already sufficient money in the treasury but limited human resources to spend.

“It’s no sense going taking advance on potential revenues to be had post 2020 when you can’t spend it in the open and transparent manner that it should be done,” he said when asked by Demerara Waves Online News.    Continue reading
