The Church has been hijacked by the moneychangers

By Yvonne Sam

Millions of people in this province, state, country and the world over are being deluded by smooth talking television pastors who cleverly twist the Scripture. Their words are accepted because they are admired; their teachings are swallowed because they quote from the Bible, and their cheating/ extramarital affairs are ignored because they are not held accountable to the very scriptures they preach to people.

And their scripture twisting goes unchecked because many of their listeners do not know enough of the Bible to spot the errors and deceptions. What if the lead world changer is simply a money changer?

Are the television pastors of today feeding the sheep, fleecing the flock, merchandising the Gospel or doing them all at the same time?  I lay no claim to being a Bible scholar, an apologist or a theologian, nor do I intend to flood this article with Bible verses in context and solid hermeneutics in order to prove the point and expose the moneychangers just as Christ did in Matthew 21:12.

Week after week hundreds of people visit the churches of the moneychangers, buy their books and tune in to their television broadcasts. Are you one of the deceived?  Even the severely myopic can see that the mega-churches have no time for the poor, the fatherless, the widows and the homeless unless they can all find their way to the mega-church building. CDs or tapes and books are sold as they repackage the Gospel – ready for merchandising.  Why is it that nobody ever thinks to boldly bring up how Christ and the Apostles never sold the repacked Word of God – not once?  No not once! The excuse is that they have to pay all the church expenses. To that I say they should have used the blueprints that the same Christ which they preach used and left instead of using man’s own agenda. Both Christ and his apostles and the prophets did so much with so little because it was the power of God at its best. However, the mega-pastors of today would be lost without a jet plane, several fancy cars, CDs and videos for sale. Something has gone very wrong.

Pastors, profits and evangelists such as  Benny Hinn, Paula White, Juanita Bynum, Creflo Dollar, and T.D. Jakes, to name a few, come boldly before a congregation or TV audience of people who need financial help, people who have lost their jobs, people with illnesses and people who need hope. Then what happens next? You can buy hope through their offering plate, their books, tapes, conferences, camp meetings or CDs. And ladies remember who the Son sets free is free indeed – you do not need a T.D. Jakes meeting to be free.

Right about now many are disagreeing with me, although the majority knows that what I say is the plain truth. Try going to your church when you have lost your job or you do not have enough money to pay a bill.  And no it has never happened to me so I am not speaking as a bitter or rejected person. Quite the contrary, but I have been in the inner circles and seen the dark truth. Do I speak of all churches? No. Read my lips and  search my heart, there are many good churches, dedicated pastors and helpful congregations, but then there are the wolves in sheep’s clothing who live in multi-million dollar mansions, drive fancy cars and fly around in private jets while the congregants struggle and hide their sorrows. Yet people keep on hoping, and giving and suffering and watching the crooked pastor (not all pastors) ride off into the sunset.

There are even pastors who blend Christianity with metaphysics and repackage the whole new deceptive mess for sale to the unsuspecting public. After all the quoting of John 10:10, especially the verse that “Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy”, would you be surprised to find out that verse is speaking of the thief as the false minister (and the wolf as Satan)?  I encourage you to slowly read the entire chapter and see for yourself. Satan would be an amateur compared to some of these charlatans.

Take a look at some advertisements of a church and its pastor. Is there anything on it about Christ? You can easily see who is being promoted. But whose church is it supposed to be anyway?

Please allow me to make something clear about my stance on these matters. My position is the same unchanged position of the New Covenant. I am not saying the people of God should be poor – definitely not, unless you are in the wilderness for your season of correction.  Again, I am not saying money is bad because it is in fact the love of money that is the root of all evil. I am not saying it is wrong to drive a new car or live in a big house. Then what am I saying? Beware of leaven and mammon pastors.  And don’t try to escape accountability by saying I am judging people. God does the judging – those of us who believe in and stand for righteousness simply relay the message. And remember you do not have to be perfect to point out sin.

Materialism is absolutely wrong and sets a superficial example. Extravagant and wasteful spending to look like the world is not the way of Christ and clearly not the example, which he has set for His church. When your purpose is to teach others how to live righteously, you are expected to do it. Just as a real estate broker is expected to have a house and a mechanic is expected to have a car that runs.

Repackaging, merchandising and selling a Gospel you do not own is not godly at all. Mismanaging God’s money in order to further man’s personal agenda is not only wrong, but it also reflects a lack of understanding regarding the building of the Kingdom. In the Bible the streets of Heaven were paved with gold, but it was certainly not to show value. Quite the opposite!. In comparison to the spiritual riches of Heaven, gold was only fit to walk on.

Christ warned us of “another Gospel” and the apostles warned us to try the spirits to see if they are of God. In addition we were also told to reject those who bring other messages. But far too many of us are not doing any of the above. So I prayerfully appeal to your common sense reasoning. Think carefully and look again at the obvious. When the church looks thinks and functions just like the world it is supposed to impact, something is very wrong. When the church is O.K. with homosexuality even though God calls it an abomination (Romans 1:26…etc), there is something wrong. When the members obey the pastor instead of correcting him and holding him accountable for his teachings, something is wrong.

Far too many members of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Georgia stood by now deceased “Bishop” Eddie Long as he was accused of molesting several young boys through a church program set up for boys without fathers. All of the young male victims, who got paid in the settlement, are now homosexual.  But where was the church to correct “its own”? The mega-churches were dead silent on correction or rebuke. A well-known televangelist defended the behavior of this serial pedophile as if such a crime is a simple indiscretion no more critical than the errors or mistakes all of us make.

Pray tell me—Does a rock have to fall on the heads of millions of people before they will wake up? Or will people choose to be willfully ignorant as long as they are inspired and motivated – even by doctrines of demons? I will say again, there are many good churches out there and no place of worship is perfect. I am not on a witch hunt, I am on a snake hunt – and many of them are on your TV and in the pulpit.

Be upset at me all you like but I cannot and will not be bought off by anything this world has to offer.  Accountability must return to the church, if it is indeed the church Christ founded. In I 1Corinthians we are told we are all accountable one to another because we are affected by our brother’s actions. Therefore, just like the Prophets, Apostles, John the Baptist, Moses, Abraham, Christ and all those who stand for righteousness, I will speak up whether you like it or not. And I encourage you to do the same. I am probably even farther away from perfect than you are and I make plenty of mistakes. But I make no excuses, I look in the mirror and I try to correct my errors.

On a corrective note find a solid place of worship where you can ask questions. A place where you can grow and participate. A place where they request and require you to study for yourself. A place where they help you when you need it and the pastor sets the example by living a life of moderation and humility. A place where the members look after and out for each other. A place where you see the money going to help the homeless, the hungry, the widows and the fatherless. A place where you don’t have to buy the Word of God on CD. A place where the pastor can be corrected and where he is held accountable for what he teaches. A place where the message is more important than rattling podiums or shouting choirs. A place where you are loved, respected and corrected. These churches exist today. Look hard, seek and you shall find. And remember, everything is at stake, everything.

Aleuta— The struggle continues.

“What have you got to lose?” appears to be the overarching, often effective, appeal.
You and I can be just as effective, if we were basely motivated.
The con-(wo)man, the cult leader, the politician and the wolf-in-sheep-clothing evangelist have a common trait. They can identify their prey with surgical precision.
“Ah hug up a babulall today!”. That is a verbatim statement of a choke-and-rob operator. “Babulall” was a generic term for anyone from the country. The victims were spotted and stalked – by the way they walked, dressed talked etc.
The 3-card trickster on Lombard street was part of a team. The spotter was some distance away and his job was to identify a potential victim, signal to an accomplice; who would then accost the target and show him how easy it is to multiply his stake in a three card scam.
Imagine yourself, homeless, penniless and struggling for some warmth in the dead of winter. This stranger comes up and offers you a life in a land where “eternal summer reigns” – tee shirts and shorts 365 days a year; 366 in a leap year! In return it will cost you all your worldly possessions, all your future income etc. Would you join the ‘People’s Temple’?
I might! – and please bury me if ever my spirit hits that low!
Except that my Faith is underpinned by a distillation of philosophies spanning centuries.
In my opinion, it all reverts to home, church and school (not necessarily in that order); three institutions that served us so well – until they were subverted by threats to marriage, growing atheism and the defunding of education at all levels of Government.

This is going on all over the world, and in most religions some good but most not so good. But it’s up to the people what they want to think. Read the Testaments yourself

Most religions are high jacked by money making people . Look at how much money pandit make from religious services including when people pass away. It is pretty disgusting really

No one can honestly accuse Ms Yvonne Sam of pretending to be a “holier than thou” person. She has put forward her argument in a solid way and most importantly pointed out that there are good pastors and good churches. It is an enjoyable and insightful read.

To Yvonne Sam, 9 out 10 times I disagree with your articles. This one you are right all the way I find the we are confronting a new but old war. Religion . I find myself telling my family, friends and colleagues to use common sense not any faith they believe in. To stop what’s happening I hope common sense will change everything .

    It makes one chuckle
    Not to use the buckle
On some of these non-conforming fools
So uncool for they do not have the tools
They could be a man and his wife
And many others in this little life
As they go around and condemning
Whoever would give them a hearing

We read about them every darn day
And even hear the lies as they pray
It is as if we are in a third world country
Committing white collar crime and go free
They fortified themselves with fat pensions
    Changing jobs with prestigious institutions
Getting off plundering the towns and  the provinces
Leaving taxpayers holding the bag in many instances

Let me put it to you without any sugar coating
Life can’t go on well for these so and so conniving
Fools, they have to suffer and get the full punishment
For karma comes back biting badly and really hell bent
To see the results can even make me sad
But these fool hardy fools maybe feel glad
Forgetting don’t spend what you don’t earn
This little lesson is what they never learn.

    Did you ever wonder
    What’s beyond yonder?
    Some watch you with scorn
    Cause you lost your still-born
Or maybe you get wrongly rapped
Cause one of yours is handicapped
But know ye! this is not your fault
Not your doing that you got caught
Maybe it is the result of real Karma
A belief don’t belong to your culture
But as surely as the sun rises
    Its all enhanced and comprises
Of Karma which can always visit
The good, bad, and even the unfit
It has no bias and its ordained
    No conditions and not feigned
Erupted unto the 3rd and the 4th generation
Can be gentle or shower severe destruction
Why did the residents of Louisiana
So heavily hit by hurricane Katrina
Many were innocent what they did?
Did Karma’s wrath blew off the lid?
They had nothing to do with the slavery
Maybe someone partook in the knavery
    So whenever havoc struck
You may think you have luck
But actually little did you know
You’re pure as fresh fallen snow
Advantage no matter how subtle and how snide
Can be thwarted for God don’t take anyone’s side
They say you reap the harvest what you have sown
For he who ride two asses bound to fall on hs own.

    Religious wars took more lives
Than all the honey-bees in hives
    Man has become so desperate
That they learn how to hate
So they can get their kicks
    Either with stones and sticks
Or with arrows and or spears
    Turning their plough shares
    Into machine-guns and carbines
Or to trucks with fancy engines
    From one stage to another
    Keep on killing their brother
    In this modern age
    Some pray like a sage
    Yet acquiring nuclear bombs
    To desecrate others tall tombs
And all the dough is spent on war
Whilst the people from near and far
    Are starving to the bone
    For they are left alone
    Whist men using microscopic
    Lens, they are really myopic
    Foes despite all the treaties
    Man’s wars never cease
Who will pay for the evil deed
    Leaving millions in dire need
Your God is a joke if he allow you
To kill then confess making you anew
My God says you reap what you sow
And have to pay for each kill or blow
    No wonder some countries
    Can’t enjoy the sweet breeze
    It’ is bad luck
    Or they suck ?
What’s sauce for the goose, pardner
Is really also sauce for the gander VULTURES
    They are birds of prey
    Which eat the carrion
    Sometimes man, I think
    Came from vultures
    For since his hey day
    How he did carry on!
    As cannibals so stink
    Losing his cultures
    Today he eats everything
    Animals, snakes, insects
    Aiding a cancerous colon
    Thus progressive man
    Enjoying his short fling
    As he bisects and dissects
    He has become a moron
    Destroying all he can
Man has come a long way
    Going down in like manner
    He can’t ever be revitalized
He kills and glorifies his kills
    Killing babies every day
    Women, the flora and fauna
    He’s become so insensitised
    Immersing himself with pills

    Man is almost near finished
    Destroying Mother Earth
    He is aiming for space
    Hoping to find new pasture
    His type would be vanished
    Having consumed his worth
    Almost erasing his race
    Trying to rebuild his stature

    Today was remembrance Day
With all its Canadian pomp and ceremony
We paid tribute to our fallen soldiers
Laid wreaths to the Unknown Soldier
And we witnessed the thousands killed
In WW I and II, Korean and Afghanistan wars
We forgotten about the Hitler loving Germans
Who did nothing as that idiot nearly took over Europe
One little bullet near his atrocious mustache
Could have saved so many lives and heartaches
We have forgotten about the high ranking
Americans and British who succumbed to Hitler
We have seen many Hitlers since WWI
We got rid of them some under weird circumstances
We allowed Hitler to Flourish From Warsaw
To France, Italy, and Poland under that gadaha1
Have we learnt anything from all these wars
Sending our sons and fathers to sure death?
Can’t mankind come up with some other means
To save all these millions and millions of lives
What good is there to remember on this day
It only brings pains and heartaches to the living
No wonder the aliens refuse to show their faces
They’re watching us and seeing how we’re failing
We their off springs are just killing one another
And they shake their heads at our disgust
For we have failed them once more again

Again I am forced to ask, or at best ponder on the following, ” Do some of these folks just comment for the sake of sheer wanting to appear intelligent, or see their name in print. As I have said before Ms. Sam always supports all of her statements with proven facts. How much weight or commonsense reasoning would demerwater, or michael hawkins give to the well worn adage ” where all men see alike, no one sees at all” She has expressed her views, express your take on the issue, stay on the topic, don’t go off on a different tangent. On a suggestive note perhaps the Editor should ” micromange” and edit some of the replies before posting. Yet another advisory, perhaps the two afore-mentioned respondents should read the comment of one of Guyana’s literary greats Francis Quamina Farrier and weight it against their pathetic contribution.

One has to be very careful in questioning the bible and the church in a search for “truth”. The search for truth has been conducted for centuries and resulted in few answers suggesting that such a search may be a never ending process and the searcher may never get to the bottom of it.
In the process some can lose deeply held beliefs. Realization that what one has firmly accepted as valid for so long, does not seem valid anymore, and with nothing to replace it with, could result in a feeling of hopelessness by many.
If one has peace of mind and is happy with what he believe it might be best to leave him/her alone. He may not like what he find with truth. Take, as an example, the subject of Evolution.
The question then becomes what it is about “truth” that the church and preachers should be preaching.

Catholic Church and like others no doubt protect their paedophile priests and dirty minded nuns. In Ireland there was a home that took in unmarried mothers in 1950s and these poor women and children were tortured and starved by the nuns . Over 50 years 700 children birth was unrecorded and little bodies dumped in sewage tanks . So disgraceful and shameful behaviour towards innocent unmarried mothersand poor children who had no where to turn to but the church .

Bon secours mother home for unwed mother in Galway Ireland tortured and starved women and children and this was run by wicked Catholic Church and devil worshippers.

Hermina, you have chosen to ‘call me out’; and I infer that some sort of response is expected.
To start with, for me, the chief attractive feature of this forum is the degree of freedom it allows. On two occasions, I was able to verify that the owner / moderator keeps track of what is posted. Many times I got a feedback to the effect that my comment was ‘awaiting moderation’. That, to me, is comforting.
This is quite good enough for me. I can disclose that I do participate in two other forums where the vitriol can be almost palpable at times.
Additionally there are some correspondents who presume to speak on behalf of others; as if the latter, – who have already, bravely, articulated their opinion / point of view – are not capable of speaking for themselves!
As for those who hijack the role of ‘moderator’, I recall the words of my late brother-in-law – “Why is it that those who have nothing to say, insist on saying it.”
My opinion is one of the few things that I consider to be mine.
By expressing my opinion on this forum I accept that it will be challenged. In the end, I will have learned or have been positively changed.
My good friend and mentor Latchme Narine used to emphasize, “There are three sides to every story; my side, your side and the truth – SAT!” He would resort to Sanskrit for emphasis.
Now, truth is very elusive. If I wanted to find out something as simple as the true boiling point of water, I’d stick a thermometer into a pot of boiling water and it would probably register 212 degrees F.
But is the thermometer itself accurate? Even if it is, the temperature of boiling water is dependent upon pressure; and TDS (total dissolved solids). If the accuracy of the thermometer is questionable, against what am I going to calibrate it?
    See what I mean?

At the end of the day it is freedom of speech
People write long essays here . As if they are sitting and exam or competing. Some of it is thought provoking some rubbish as if the writer is stuck in dark ages
It is find for thought and gets people thinking. Some people are here to show off their intelligence that is why guyana is as it is
.they should put their qualifications at end of their name
