Caribbean nationals urged to take care when travelling to the US

MIAMI, Feb 12 2017 – A Florida immigration attorney, Dahlia Walker-Huntington, is warning Caribbean nationals with green cards who have been charged with a crime in the United States to postpone overseas travel.

In spite of a ruling from a federal court stopping the Trump Administration’s executive order banning travellers from seven predominately Muslim nations, Caribbean nationals living in the US are nervous. The attorney spoke at recent immigration forum at Holy Family Episcopal Church in Miami Gardens, Florida, and stated that non-US citizens are still exposed to the ban’s negative implications.      Continue reading

Martinus van der Lubbe, a 24-year-old unemployed Dutch anarchist, entered the Reichstag in Berlin under cover of darkness on the night of February 27, 1933. He carried with him the matches and firelighters he had bought earlier that morning with the last of his funds. He entered the main chamber and set the drapes on fire. The fire soon spread to the wooden panels and engulfed the auditorium, fanned by the building’s famous dome, which now served as a chimney. Looking at the orange flames from his balcony, Adolf Hitler told Rudolf Diels, the first chief of the Gestapo: “There will be no more mercy now. Anyone who stands in our way will be butchered. There is a feeling of unease in the political firmament.

Bharat Jagdeo has been elected General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and simultaneously confirmed what had been speculated for months – there will be a consolidation of his party’s leadership with that of his leadership of the Political Opposition…confirming that his Opposition will be operating more from a position of partisan ideology than national well being.

There is just cause for concern here.

It was under him that corruption became an industry, to the extent that thugs became payroll bankers  and politicians became fabulously rich –  not from inheritance or work with compensatory remuneration. He was at the helm when Guyana was assigned a solid rank on the corruption perception index, hitting all the high points of socio economic decomposition and he was there,too, when the job force had the lowest Afro Guyanese percentage in decades.    [Read more]
