By Dr. Dhanpaul Narine
The women in our community have made us proud. They recently treated us to a wonderful weekend of high culture in New York.
Dr. Vindhya Persaud brought her troupe from Guyana to perform at York College. It was Naya Zamana’s 21st anniversary and it was titled ’Lost in Time’. A packed York College auditorium was treated to spectacular dances and top class music. This is the second time that Vindhya has brought her dancers to New York. Last year was equally mesmerizing with a capacity crowd supporting a unique event.
Vindhya has been active in Indian culture for most of her life. She is the daughter of the late Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud who was a stalwart in politics in Guyana. Pandit Reepu, as he was affectionately called, was well known for promoting Hindu culture both in Guyana and abroad.
