A detailed breakdown of impacts facing Florida’s east coast from Hurricane Matthew

matthew-imageA highly-populated, vast stretch of Florida’s east coast faces its most extreme hurricane threat in modern history.

Computer model forecasts have converged on the idea that Hurricane Matthew, which is intensifying, will directly strike the area between roughly West Palm Beach and the Georgia border. Packing maximum winds of 140 mph and stronger gusts, Matthew is poised to become the first Category 4 or stronger storm to make landfall in this region since records began in 1851.

As Donald Trump continues the self-immolation that began in the first presidential debate, Hillary Clinton is rising once more in the polls. But Trump had pulled into a virtual dead heat before that debate, and could easily rise again if he ever stops torching himself.

This has once again raised a critical question: How can a candidate so clearly unfit for office, a foul, boorish cad who has insulted a majority of the voters and embarrassed the remainder, be so competitive with Hillary Clinton, one of the most experienced and prepared presidential candidates in history?    Continue reading

Hurri­cane Matthew slams Haiti, takes aim at US East Coast

PETIT-GOAVE, Haiti (AP) — Hurri­cane Matthew slammed into Haiti’s southw­estern tip with howling, 145 mph winds Tuesday, tearing off roofs in the poor and largely rural area, uproo­ting trees and leaving rivers bloated and choked with debris. At least nine deaths were blamed on the storm during its week-long march across the Carib­bean.
