
GIHR Ninth Annual International Research Conference
Saturday 25 June, 2016 – Guest Speaker – William ‘Tom’ Dalgetty
The Guyana Institute of Historical Research hosts its Ninth Annual International Research Conference on Saturday 25 June, 2016 in the Conference room of the National Library. The theme of the conference, this year is, Political Independence . The Conference lasts from 09:00hrs to 14:000hrs. The general public is invited and, must register now. The seats are limited.
The Guest Speaker this year is Mr. William ‘Tom’ Dalgetty. He attended Queen’s College. With GCE (Lond.) A levels in Chemistry, Physics, and Pure Mathematics he went to University of Aberdeen, Scotland. At Queen’s College, he played at athletics and football: representing the school at athletics and leading K House (K House champion athlete 1958). At University, he was an active demonstrator against the Vietnam War, apartheid in South Africa, and African-American oppression in USA. He was elected Secretary, African Student Association (1967); Treasurer, African Students Association (1968); President, West Indian Students Association (1969) and Librarian, Johnson Hall (1970).
