Strip Harmon’s powers, enforce code of conduct for Govt. officials – AFC

The Alliance For Change (AFC) says that too many responsibilities have been placed in the hands of Minister of State, Joseph Harmon. The Party thinks that this is the root of many problems in the coalition government which it is a part of.
In a statement issued last evening, AFC revealed that key leaders met yesterday on a retreat which is part of an ongoing effort to review the party’s performance. At that forum, the politicians also discussed a number of issues of concern to the Party. The AFC also reviewed and considered internal matters with regard to the party’s operations and structure along with its role as part of the Coalition Government of Guyana.

His remarks – not without irony as, of all of the members of the British Parliament, he is among those with the strongest track record as an anti-imperialist – respond to the global furor over the so called Panama Papers.

These are the 11.5 million files taken from the database of the Panama-based offshore law firm, Mossack Fonseca & Co, which were sent in 2014 in digitized form on an unsolicited basis from an anonymous source to the German newspaper, the Süddeutsche Zeitung. They were subsequently shared with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in Washington and then researched by about 100 newspapers and broadcasters worldwide. There was a time when life consisted of the simple things. People worked hard and looked out for each other. They went to bed when the sun was set and woke up at the hint of dawn. These hardy souls congregated at weekends in temples, the marketplace and sporting grounds and celebrated life in genteel surroundings.
