Buxton-Friendship Express - March 2016Our March 2016 issue of Buxton-Friendship Express is here. We are happy to share it with you.

This month, we saw an frightening number of earthly departures from our community. We’ve listed some of them on page 18.

Among them were three distinguished public servants: Weygand Younge, a former engineer at the Linden Bauxite company, who helped in the design of Guyana’s Independence Arch; William Haslyn Parris, former Deputy Prime Minister, Bauxite Company chief executive, economist, teacher, author, constitutional scholar, and proprietor of the popular Pisces Bar; Clyde Raymond Roopchand, former economist, teacher and philanthropist.

There were two cases where families lost two members within days: Edith Smith (Greene) was quickly followed by her younger sister, Babsy, who had returned to Guyana for the former’s funeral. Also, Weygand Younge and his America-born cousin, Mary Riley, went away the same day.

We join with all of the bereaved families in mourning the passing of our fellow villagers. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to their loved ones and will remember you in our prayers.

On a personal note, my family also suffered the loss of my first cousin, Linden Fredericks. On behalf of Aunty Agnes (his mother), his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, other loved ones and myself, I want to thank everyone who reached out to us with expressions of comfort and prayers. We greatly appreciated it.

We wish to remind all of our supporters and friends that we still have a few tickets available for our fundraising Spring Banquet in Brooklyn, New York on April 23rd. We would greatly appreciate your patronage. Please see page 9 for information to obtain tickets or e-mail us at buxtonexpress@aol.com.

You can also contact us to obtain raffle books. $1,000.00 will be given away to the lucky winners. Tickets are just $5 a book. Drawing will take place on June 25th at our Summer Soiree in Brooklyn.

We also want to remind those of you who are planning to attend our Jubilee Ball at Tipperary Hall on Saturday, May 28th. Please reserve your tickets now to avoid disappointment. They are going pretty fast, and none will be sold at the door. Tickets must be paid for by April 30.

Please remember the Xmas Fire victims in Buxton. Any amount you can contribute to help will do them a lot of good and bring you showers of blessing.
