Profile: James Clarke: A Guyanese IT Manager at CNN! – By Dr. Dhanpaul Narine
There are tons of cables, some under the floors. Servers are piled high and television screens face you from almost every angle. Then there are the cameras. The long camera on the floor is flexible enough to move at every angle and those overhead are perched at all angles and in high definition to capture those reports from all over the world. The hundreds of computers sift the news and decide what is fit to hit the screens.
Cable News Network, or CNN, is known to report the news as it happens. You may wonder how all of this is put together and how the transitions are smooth and flawless. The face we see on television masks the technology that lies behind the operation. There are a multitude of persons from the scriptwriter, producer, makeup department, and others that make the product attractive and watchable. One of the technological wizards at CNN is James Clarke and he is Guyanese. James is the Broadcast IT Resource Manager and he has the CNN operation at his fingertips, literally. Continue reading →
