COLUMBIA, S.C. – Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have emerged from weeks of campaign chaos as the overwhelming favourites for their parties’ presidential nominations.

Trump won Saturday’s Republican primary in South Carolina by a large margin, his second resounding triumph in a row. Clinton earned a narrower but nonetheless convincing win in the Democratic caucus in Nevada, rebounding from a lopsided loss.

Each of them is now positioned for a potentially decisive run of victories over the next week and a half.

Trump dealt a major blow to chief rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, who had hoped that the profane and impulsive anti-establishment billionaire would be shunned by a religious southern state with a history of picking conventional politicians. Clinton halted the momentum of Bernie Sanders, who now faces the real possibility of losing 12 of the next 14 states.   [Read more]
