These links to the Rideau Canal, Ontario, Canada show how a waterway can be used for navigation and transportation. The Rideau Canal opened up the interior of Ontario to settlers, in addition to serving a military purpose in providing a by-pass route to the St. Lawrence seaway which was exposed to American attack.

The waterways of Guyana (the land of waters) – the Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice Rivers, their tributaries and the various creeks – Mahaica, Maichony, Abary, etc. should be considered as transportation routes for people and goods to and from the interior to the coast. This would open up the interior to settlement and allow Guyana to fulfill its potential.
