THE FIRST BRIDGE ACROSS THE DEMERARA RIVER

The days of trembling tracks

Of Upper Demerara, way back

Whistle and thunder that excite

Laden cars coming with bauxite

Thick smoke of engine in mood

A rattling song of heart to soothe

    SUDDIE BEACH

On the shores of Essequibo coast
Lies serene Suddie the very most
    Beautiful sandy escape beach
    Within a pleasant easy reach
A treat to wander and understand
As you relaxing lazily in the sand
Listening to waves as they shove
    Against salty growth of mangrove
    And laden guava trees
    Bending in the breeze
    Dropping their ripened fruits
    Showing their eroded roots
    With its quiet shelters
    Ideal for all lovers
Even the sick, lonely and the lame
And those tired of doing the same
Things day after day and want to regain
Their sanity and revel in memory lane
    Getting away from the hustle
    Building a tall sand castle
