Gone with the Wind
[The 1800 home of the Paterson’s of Upper Demerara, Christianburg-British Guiana-]

By Dmitri Allicock

In my heart there lives a special place
For the memory of a dear time and space
A sacred place where my heritage is found
Along Demerara River’s hallowed ground

Beautiful and thought provoking poems and scenes as always, Dmitri. The more I am made to think about Guyana, the more I feel that Guyana should be divided into two separate countries. Ours is a history that will never heal because our differences, which will never go away, are easily preyed upon and exploited. I strongly believe that the time has come when we have to realistically accept that we have wasted more than enough time and energy into building something that can never be – a country unified by common beliefs, goals, dreams and aspirations.

Partitioning Guyana into two separate countries is not a radical or new concept. History is rife with these stories of countries breaking apart to form new and independent sovereign states. Spain is the latest country gaining ground with the Catalonia region pushing to become a separate and independent country. Elections are set for Sept 27, 2015. I think the time is right to start a similar movement in Guyana. Put it to a referendum and let the people decide.

Gigi….. there you go again preaching the gospel of “divide” “separation”….
There is enough ” negativity” around to destroy our world.
Preaching the gospel of “united” “togetherness” is a lot more
      rewarding enjoyable.
Catalonia is nothing new…..neither was Scotland.
Culturally we are all different …individually we are all unique…
      No two DNA alike.

Guyana was once BERBICE ESSEQUIBO DEMERARA……surely you don’t wish to return to “dark ages” …..most European influences have helped to mould the
Carribean into what it is today….
You are either reading too much or reading the wrong history books.

Suggest you stop teaching and start learning.
Listening to your next generations of students.
Rather than inflicting your ideas/beliefs on them……as am sure they
will surprise you. Our next generation have to learn much quicker
than our generation if they are to survive.

Please don’t “scare” me or make me give up on you.
      It’s notin in my nature…..
      Peace and love😄

There people of Guyana do not want a divided country. While we do have political and cultural differences we’ve long lived with it through “thick and thin”.
