Expressing fear of its Prime Ministerial Candidate Elisabeth Harper being subjected to ‘disrespect’, the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic has rejected the invitation for her to debate with Moses Nagamootoo, her counterpart in the Opposition.

The PPP/C noted yesterday that while it has accepted the invitation for a public Presidential debate from the Private Sector Commission, their decision to not entertain the Harper-Nagamootoo debate is final.  Continue reading

Former President, Bharrat Jagdeo Saturday afternoon warned supporters of his People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) that if they do not turn out and vote resounding next month, the opposition would cause unrest.

Addressing thousands of supporters at a rally at Damon Square, Essequibo Coast, he said already the opposition was setting the stage for disturbances by already objecting to the voters’ list.  Continue reading

The list of candidates for the May 11 general elections published in the newspapers today has former President Bharrat Jagdeo’s occupation as “President” while President Donald Ramotar’s occupation has been listed as “politician”.

Furthermore, Jagdeo is listed as living at State House 52-53 Main Street, the same address for Ramotar and his son Alexei. Continue reading

Many people are familiar with the story of Adam and Eve’s fall from paradise in the book of Genesis in the Old Testament, but some scholars now believe the unnamed forbidden fruit may not have been an apple, but instead was more likely to be the red pomegranate.

Do you recognise this red/orange coloured fruit? It is the pomegranate (pom-eeh-gran-at) or as many Indian readers will know as anaar. It is one of the first cultivated fruits thought to have originated from the ancient Middle Eastern kingdom of Iran, and then travelled to northern India and throughout the Mediterranean region.   Continue reading
