Joey Jagan on “Coalition”, “government corruption” and U.G. – 3 videos

Joey Jagan, the son of the late Cheddie and Janet Jagan comments  on Guyana’s politics. In these three videos he suggests: (1) the need for “Coalition” to mend the rift between the two major ethnic groups; (2) the need to deal with government corruption and (3) the need to improve the University of Guyana (UG).

Cyril, thanks for sharing those video clips. I’m pleased to see that Joey Jagan is speaking out about the failure of the ruling party to live up to Cheddi Jagan’s vision for the people of Guyana.

I believe that Guyana uses a proportional representation system to elect the legislature. However it is still the party with the largest plurality of seats that forms the government which could be a minority government as the PPP/C is now. This adversarial system is a legacy of the British Parliamentary system which is outdated. A coalition, which incidentally is in force in Britain at the moment, is probably the most effective form of government in a mufti-party country like Guyana. Ironically Guyana is known as a Co-operative Republic…

There was a shortage of toilet paper at UG since the late 70s and the conditions were always deplorable. So it is not only the current government that is to be blamed. The PNC was the first to have a party group permanently alloted offices at UG. The PPP never did. There was more manipulation of employment of lecturers because of political views. The first batch of students listed for National was 99.99% Indian. Give Jack his jacket. This is a national problem. Not everyone has the option of sending their children abroad, Joey, so what is your solution?.

Joey, you knew darn well that there was corruption before you joined up with the PPP for the last election. It was to help your son and preserve the Jagan tradition. Why all this “Christopher Columbus Discovery” act. You also hated the communists within the PPP. What about all the people you called liars? You now talk about the “racial configuration” (another Colombian discovery). So where do you stand? Are you about to lead an internal opposition or are you out again? Enquiring minds want to know. Do you agree with Jagdeo that the PPP is a “coolie party”? What the Hell is going on? Comment on EVERYTHING.

Religious bodies in the actual manageemnt of the state??? Are you telling us that your parents would have ok’ed that? Stop fooling the young generation. The PNC would not have joined with the PPP after the last election if offered the possibility. They smelt blood the minute it and the AFC had a one vote majority in Parliament. They would have been leaving the AFC out to dry for a mess of pottage. Even if Cheddi were alive he wouldn’t have been able to pull that one off. The PPP doesn’t respond to you because of your name (the Jagan Mystique) and it’s not in the interest of the opposition to do so. But you can’t go about talking that stuff (for want of a better word) to people who know anything about Guyanese politics.
