JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — An amazing batting display by West Indies saw them break several records as they beat South Africa by four wickets to win the second T20 International at the Wanderers, on Sunday evening.

The Windies were set 232 for victory after the Proteas posted 231-7 off their 20 overs. The visitors reached the target with four balls to spare – the highest run chase in T20 cricket. The win gave the Windies an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series – following their victory by four wickets in Cape Town last Friday night (January 9, 2015)

Chris Gayle was again unstoppable as he blasted 90 from just 41 balls – including nine fours and seven sixes – to win his second Man of the Match award in a row.

The powerful left-hander added 152 for the second wicket with Marlon Samuels – the highest partnership in this format. Samuels made a stroke-filled 60 off 39 balls to maintain his good batting form.

At the end skipper Darren Sammy hit 20 off seven balls, including a massive six which sealed the deal.

West Indies coach Stuart Williams was full of praise for the team after their record-breaking run chase.

Williams described the performance and “something truly remarkable” and added that it was great comeback following the 2-0 defeat in the Test Series.
