She is young, talented, classy and beautiful. She is flying the flag of Guyana high and proud. Lisa Punch is America’s singing sensation. If you wonder where Guyana fits into the picture Lisa will say that wherever she goes Guyana is with her.

The year 2014 has been particularly eventful for Lisa. She became a household name in the United States and in the Caribbean when she became a finalist in the talent competition ‘Rising Star.’ This talent show was sponsored by ABC, a major television network, and it afforded Lisa the chance to work with and to meet with some of the big names in music.

But throughout it all Lisa has remained dignified and humble with a welcoming smile that puts one at ease. How did it all begin for this talented daughter of Guyana? How was she able to break into primetime American television and to make her country proud? 

Lisa was born in Georgetown in Guyana but says that she is a country girl having spent some time in El Dorado and Belladrum on the West Coast of Berbice. Her dad John Punch went to Belladrum Government School. Her grandmother Pauline Punch was also a teacher at Belladrum. Lisa went to Belladrum Primary School and then to Smith Memorial School in Hadfield Street and was in the choir at Bishop’s High School. Lisa liked grammar and vocabulary and in High School she loved the theater and arts.
