Guyanese pilot, Khamraj Lall arrested in Puerto Rico over US$620,000

According to Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora, US federal agents at the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport on the Caribbean island detected the large sum stashed in plastic bags during routine investigations.

The large sum of money had not been declared to US authorities and was detected during a search of the aircraft.

Lall, the report said, was the passenger of a private plane that landed in Isla Verde on November 22, according to an affidavit by a federal agent. Continue reading

Four CARICOM countries cut back reliance on PetroCaribe

Petro CaribeMIAMI, USA — At least four Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member countries are taking steps to reduce their reliance on Venezuela’s PetroCaribe oil subsidy as crude prices plunge, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).The four countries are Guyana, Haiti, Belize and Jamaica and it’s a move other countries should follow, said David Voght, managing director of energy consultancy IPD Latin America.The future of the $8 billion PetroCaribe subsidy, which also allows countries to finance part of their oil purchases at 1 percent for 25 years, is looking less secure as Venezuela faces inflation that had risen to 63 percent and the world’s widest budget deficit.

  • Now that the grand jury has returned with their decision on the extrajudicial killing of Michael Brown, we should be reminded that even though Darren Wilson was not indicted, Blackness was certainly indicted by the grand jury.

    Darren Wilson is free and the police continue to be empowered to kill with impunity. Blackness was found guilty yet again, as witnessed by the many Black slain and their stories. Continue reading
