Re: Cancellation of Guyana Festival 2014
    Dear All,

The Guyana Festival Committee met last Thursday, May 22, 2014, and took the tough decision to cancel the Guyana Festival for 2014. This event was scheduled to be held on June 22, 2014 at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

The decision was taken after a very lengthy discussion that encompassed all of the levels of planning of the Festival. It was decided that the Festival was facing some challenges this year, and that the emphasis and focus of our Committee’s work should be put to next year, 2015, and beyond.

Next year is significant for the Festival, as it will be the 20th Anniversary of the staging of the Guyana Festival in Toronto, and will also coincide with province wide celebrations and events for the PanAm Games, which Guyana will be taking part in. This important anniversary will help to fuel a grand celebration in 2015, and will serve as a kick off to observances for Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary in 2016.

On behalf of the Guyana Festival Committee, I seek your understanding in this matter and look forward to working with you in a significant way for future endeavors.

    Sincerely,

    Sattie Sawh
    Hon Consul General
