Great Expectations: Crimean referendum – (RT Documentary)

Great Expectations: Crimeans await fateful referendum (RT Documentary)

Published on Mar 8, 2014

From the late 18th century Crimea was a part of Russia; that was until 1954 when Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, issued a decree transferring the small Black Sea peninsular from Russia to Ukraine which was still a part of the USSR. Crimea is, to this day, mostly populated by Russians, though there are also many Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars.

The current situation on the peninsula is tense and complicated, people are divided; some of them want Crimea to return to being a part of Russia, others support an undivided Ukraine. A referendum on Crimea’s future status will take place on March 16th 2014. RT sent a camera crew to Crimea to hear directly from some residents of this troubled part of the world.

The video above explains a lot.
Anarchy and mob rule is ever present in nationalistic societies.
Nationalism in politics is utterly unacceptable.
Nationalism in sports acceptable even commendable.
Nationalism is not unlike religion …. it feeds the soul of the believers.

When law and order breaks down “respect” for those enforcing it become
    the victims of conflict……sad fact.
Put in (pun) weapons in the equasion and it becomes civil war.
This does not seem to be the case in Ukraine….the people want
    peace not war.
It will take decisive action to stem the tide of revolution.
King kanute …English believed his power came from God
tried to demonstrate his belief by turning back the tide…
Needless to say he got wet !
Religion and the power it has on people physce beyond belief !

Cyril and Guyanese on line should be praised for this videos publication.
Well done brother.!!! That knighthood from HRH QE2 longest living
    ruler awaits you.

You should read the article by Friedman. “Russia’s Strategy……” to understand how Ukraine fit in. I was wondering what was the U.S. real interest in the area. This article helps to show it clearly and the likely implications. Ukraine is just part of the show.

USA interest is “political” …east west detante….
not even saber rattling….just naivety !!!
    Cowboy style diplomacy…..

Peaceful people will go for RUSSIA ..MINORITY ELEMENTS
    will preach nationalism….its a media feeding frenzy…sensationalism.

My suspicion is that Putin and Merkel will eventually join “economically”
as one united trading block…one Europe one nation one destiny.
America will then have to look north/south for its economic survival.
China will dominate world trade…they already own USA.

    We shall see….
    Amen
