Government lost out on compromise, elections may be only way out of political impasse

Former Speaker of the National Assembly, Ralph Ramkarran believes that the government lost out on an opportunity for compromise last week when it held firm to its ground, resulting in Guyana failing to pass the Anti Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism legislation (AML/CFT).
He believes that while it is not the most desirable option, the only way to break the current political impasse in the National Assembly is by returning to the electorate for a vote. Continue reading

Trinidad’s Carnival 2014: Machel Montano retains Soca crown
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Monday March 3, 2014, CMC – Machel Montano walked away with the two million dollar (one TT dollar=US$0.16 cents) first prize in the International Soca Monarch competition on Saturday as Carnival celebrations continue in Trinidad and Tobago.
Montano, who last year shared the multi-million dollar prize with “Super Blue” Austin Lyons, overcame stiff competition from the Grenadian artiste, Hollice “Mr Kill@” Mapp whose popular tune “Rolly Polly” was good enough for a three-way tie in second position. Continue reading →
