The blue-gray Tanager songbird (Thraupis episcopus) known as the Blue Saki in Guyana, is among the commonest frugivore species of birds found there and have a range to as far north as Mexico to Argentina in the south. The Blue Saki of Guyana rates very high on the list of seeds dispersal birds’ primarily due to its diet of mostly fruits.
Many accounts of travel in Guyana tell of flashes of bright colorful birds to be seen in the forest as a wide variety fly through this thickly wooded country. The Blue Saki is one bird that can however be easily missed due to its striking azure blue appearance blended against the background of blue sky and dazzling sunlight. Continue reading
