Active or “extremely active” hurricane season – NOAA

hurricaneOceanic and atmospheric conditions in the Atlantic basin are expected to produce more and stronger hurricanes this year, says Climate Prediction Centre expert.

WASHINGTON D.C., United States, Monday May 27, 2013 – The United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting an active or extremely active hurricane season this year.  In its 2013 Atlantic hurricane season outlook, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Centre, said 2013 would be prolific in raising storms out of the Atlantic and the Caribbean.    

For the six-month hurricane season, which begins June 1, NOAA’s Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook says there is a 70 percent likelihood of 13 to 20 named storms, with winds of 39 miles per hour (mph) or higher.    [Read more]

    Now that we ure armed with those deadly predictions of this Hurricane Season 19 severe storms, 9 terrible Hurricanes and 5 above 100 MPH, the only thing that we can do to save our own souls is to begin the necessary PREPARATIONS for this Hurricane Season.
    The preparations include stockpiling of canned foods for every home and water included.
    Listen to the radio and TV and heed all hurricane warnings.
    Try your best to relocate temporarily from river banks and all low lying areas that will be prone to flooding.
    Keep your pets and other animals safe.
    Find out where the Hurricane Shelters are located in your community.
    Find out who is the manager of those hurricane Shelters.
    Board up all glass and other windows and doorways.
    Keep your battery operated radios and torch lights safe and handy.
    Visit the Health Centres and report the presence of Sick and Handicapped persons in your family.
    Remember that Diabetics will need to walk with their medications and also Hypertensives and all who take daily medication must carry them along to these Shelters.
    You can also read the flyers the Disaster Preparedness Committee will put out from time to time. Have a safe Hurricane Season by being Prepared and ready when these storms strike!
