Tribute to Godfrey Chin (1937-2012) – M.G. Joe Singh

Tribute to Winfield Godfrey Chin (1937- 2012)

By Major General (retd) Joseph G Singh

I am honored to have been invited to pay this Tribute to a man I was privileged to have as a friend for many years. Winfield Godfrey Chin was a man of many talents. I was fortunate to see and marvel at his creativity, to learn from tapping into his prodigious memory, to experience the genuine friendship he extended so unreservedly, and to benefit from his unselfishness and magnanimity.

I had the good fortune of collaborating with him on several exhibitions mounted to coincide with events and commemorative anniversaries and in researching events, people and places, to add to our knowledge of our history, to celebrate or culture and to point out new opportunities for the younger generations to explore. Our engagements were through phone calls, e-mails, clippings and face to face meetings.  [more – Tribute_to_Godfrey_Chin – MG Joe Singh]

Launching of Dr Ian McDonald’s ‘The Comfort of All Things’ – MG Joe Singh

Message from Major General (retd) Joseph G Singh, Trustee, Moray House Trust,

on the Occasion of the Launching of Dr Ian McDonald’s fifth collection of poems, The Comfort of All Things

In the Introduction to ‘My Lovely Native Land’, an Anthology of Guyana, Arthur Seymour wrote, “This Anthology is a first study in national pride for our children who will go on to build the fabric of a society in these borders that will assure a better life for all”.

(Arthur and Elma Seymour (1971) An Anthology of Guyana, Longmans, Caribbean)

Dr Ian McDonald, A.A. has been one of the gifted craftsmen who has contributed immensely to the building and strengthening of that fabric using the power of words as novelist, playwright, poet, columnist and publisher. Ian has always been a strong advocate of the literary, visual and performing arts and of sports and their role in shaping and influencing the development and expansiveness of the human mind and as indicators of the value-systems of our communities and society.  [ more – Launching of Dr Ian McDonald’s ‘The Comfort of All Things’ – MG Joe Singh]
