October 16, 2012: Georgetown, Guyana: Yesterday, Ricardo Rodrigues, a close associate of jailed drug kingpin Roger Khan, was shot and killed by gunmen at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) in Georgetown, just days after being released on bail following his detention over the unearthing of an arms cache in Lethem. Today, his attorney Vic Puran mysteriously ‘ran off the road’ and into a trench with his vehicle. He was later found dead by residents of the Mahicony area. Attorney Vic Puran killed in apparent vehicular accident

Attorney Vic Puran

Prominent Attorney-at-Law, Vic Puran, was discovered dead this morning, pinned down in his vehicle, in a canal at Mahaicony, on the East Coast of Demerara and police sources say it appears as though the attorney may have lost control of his vehicle on the lonely road and it plunged into the canal.

They suspect no foul play at this stage. Puran had a farm in the area, just over 100 yards from the scene of the apparent accident and it is believed that he was heading to the farm. The accident is believed to have taken place sometime last night- (Monday October 15, 2012).  Continue reading

Guyanese Lawyer tops Council of Legal Education at Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad

Yet another Guyanese Lawyer has topped the Council of Legal Education at the Hugh Wooding law school in Trinidad. Thandi Benn said, she was very excited to hear that she had won the top prize and said it took a lot of hard work.

Justice Chang implored Benn not to fall prey to conceit but to always be humble in the way she goes about the practice of her profession. He advised her to understand Law not only in its principles, but its conceptual framework and in a holistic way. Benn thanked all those who helped her to make a lifelong dream a reality. Embattled businessman and Roger Khan Associate, Ricardo Rodrigues, was executed in a hail of gunfire at the Pit Stop Food Bar in the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club compound on Albert Street. At least two other men were shot and are nursing those wounds this evening.    Continue reading
