Police in riot gear clashed yesterday (October 10), with youths armed with stones, bottles, sticks and cutlasses during a five-hour standoff, between the villages of Agricola and Eccles, that brought rush hour traffic on the East Bank of Demerara to a standstill, leaving thousands of commuters stranded on either side of the conflict zone.

Former Auditor General of Guyana Anand Goolsarran launches book on improving Public Accountability
The issue of public accountability has been addressed in a publication by a former Auditor General of Guyana. The title of the book is Improving Public Accountability and is a compilation of Goolsarran’s experiences and research, which he used while pursuing a doctoral Degree. Anand Goolsarran served as Auditor General of Guyana for 15 years, leaving in a shroud of secrecy in 2005, to take up a post at the UN in New York. [more]
